Risk Management Risk: High Altitude Sickness Elevation will be between 10,000 ft. and 18,000 ft. Severe altitude sickness occurs in this altitude range Primary symptoms: lack of appetite, nausea, fatigue, shortness of breath upon exertion, insomnia, etc. Severe symptoms: pulmonary edema and cerebral edema

Risk Management Risk: Management Plan expedition so chances of altitude sickness are significantly reduced: Gradual change in elevation and an acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar Gradually increase mileage Members will drink at least 4-5 L. of water a day With permission from a doctor, members will safely take the drug acetazolamide (Diamox) to prevent altitude sickness If a member starts experiencing altitude sickness, he/she will be escorted to a lower altitude Rescue helicopter can be called for medical emergencies Medical service centers exist in Luckla, Namche, and Pheriche

Budget Booking via a trekking agency:  Accountability for domestic flights  Cheaper accommodation  More local contacts in case of an emergency  Knowledge about local history  Directing much needed money into Sherpa households

Budget ORGT will cover trekking permit fee, flight from Kathmandu to Luckla, lodging fee, meals during the actual trek, etc. Expedition members will cover international flight fee. $1600 ~ $2000 Expedition members will pay a $150 commitment fee upon selection. If unused, fee will be returned at the end of expedition. Expedition members can expect at least $300 in other personal expenses such as hot beverages, hot showers, visa fee, etc.
