Learning to Dance

Learning to Dance Mark 1:1-13 1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way,

Learning to Dance Mark 1:1-13 3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’” 4 John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Learning to Dance Mark 1:1-13 5 And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey.

Learning to Dance Mark 1:1-13 7 And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Learning to Dance Mark 1:1-13 9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

Learning to Dance Mark 1:1-13 11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” 12 The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.

Learning to Dance Mark 1:1-13 13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.

Learning to Dance 1. Verse 1 Jesus is not just a king, He’s The King—100% God/Divine and 100% Man

Learning to Dance 1. Verse 2-3 “As it is written”—an authoritative expression Mark uses to emphasize that this is the continuation of the Old Testament story/promise.

The Trinity 1. We begin to see a co-equal, co- eternal, and consubstantial relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

The Trinity 2. The Trinity expresses a love relationship with one another. There is not one person greater than another.

The Trinity 3. God is not more fundamentally 1 than He is 3, and He is not fundamentally more 3 than He is 1.

4. The Trinity is 1 God eternally existent in 3 persons.

Learning to Dance 1. The Greek descriptive word for the Trinity is PERICHORESIS -to dance around one another

2. It’s the dance that separates our God from others. Learning to Dance 2. It’s the dance that separates our God from others.

Why is this important? 1. Our God doesn’t NEED our glory or love. He takes joy in our love/worship/service, but He created us in order to give us this love and express the joy that He shares within Himself.

Why is this important? 2. It’s to be out of our joy and relationship with Him that we glorify/worship/serve Him.

How do we Dance? 1. God’s pursuit of you is for your joy. -His hand of conviction is always His hand of comfort.

How do we Dance? 2. The church’s unity ought to replicate the trinity’s relationship. -Disunity repulses, unity attracts

How do we Dance? 3. The Trinity models self-giving love, therefore, we should model self- giving love.
