PERFORMANCE & REWARD

MATTHEW 20:1-2 (NIV) FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS LIKE A LANDOWNER WHO WENT OUT EARLY IN THE MORNING TO HIRE MEN TO WORK IN HIS VINEYARD. 2 HE AGREED TO PAY THEM A DENARIUS FOR THE DAY AND SENT THEM INTO HIS VINEYARD.

MATTHEW 20: GROUPS OF PEOPLE: 6 AM (12 HOURS) 9 AM (9 HOURS) 12 NOON (6 HOURS) 3 PM (3 HOURS) 5 PM (1 HOUR)

MATTHEW 20:11,14-16 WHEN THEY RECEIVED IT, THEY BEGAN TO GRUMBLE AGAINST THE LANDOWNER… TAKE YOUR PAY AND GO. I WANT TO GIVE THE MAN WHO WAS HIRED LAST THE SAME AS I GAVE YOU. DON'T I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO WHAT I WANT WITH MY OWN MONEY? OR ARE YOU ENVIOUS BECAUSE I AM GENEROUS?’ "SO THE LAST WILL BE FIRST, AND THE FIRST WILL BE LAST.”

MATTHEW 19:27-30 (NIV) PETER ANSWERED HIM, "WE HAVE LEFT EVERYTHING TO FOLLOW YOU WHAT THEN WILL THERE BE FOR US?” JESUS SAID TO THEM, "I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, AT THE RENEWAL OF ALL THINGS … EVERYONE WHO HAS LEFT HOUSES OR BROTHERS OR SISTERS OR FATHER OR MOTHER OR CHILDREN OR FIELDS FOR MY SAKE WILL RECEIVE A HUNDRED TIMES AS MUCH & WILL INHERIT ETERNAL LIFE. BUT MANY WHO ARE FIRST WILL BE LAST, & MANY WHO ARE LAST WILL BE FIRST.

THIS IS THE PICTURE OF GRACE

SIMILAR STORY – PARABLE OF THE PRODIGAL SON LUKE 15: "THE OLDER BROTHER BECAME ANGRY AND REFUSED TO GO IN. SO HIS FATHER WENT OUT AND PLEADED WITH HIM. [29] BUT HE ANSWERED HIS FATHER, 'LOOK! ALL THESE YEARS I'VE BEEN SLAVING FOR YOU AND NEVER DISOBEYED YOUR ORDERS. YET YOU NEVER GAVE ME EVEN A YOUNG GOAT SO I COULD CELEBRATE WITH MY FRIENDS.”

WHY DID THE OLDER BROTHER BECOME ANGRY & REFUSED TO GO IN.

I’VE BEEN SLAVING FOR YOU AND HAVE NEVER DISOBEYED YOUR ORDERS.

LUKE 15:30-32 [30] BUT WHEN THIS SON OF YOURS WHO HAS SQUANDERED YOUR PROPERTY WITH PROSTITUTES COMES HOME, YOU KILL THE FATTENED CALF FOR HIM!'[31] " 'MY SON,’ THE FATHER SAID, 'YOU ARE ALWAYS WITH ME, AND EVERYTHING I HAVE IS YOURS. [32] BUT WE HAD TO CELEBRATE AND BE GLAD, BECAUSE THIS BROTHER OF YOURS WAS DEAD AND IS ALIVE AGAIN; HE WAS LOST AND IS FOUND.' ”

GOD PLACES INFINITE VALUE ON US. GOD GIVES US UNCONDITIONAL LOVE / ACCEPTANCE GOD SHOWS US EXTRAORDINARY RESPECT.

THE OLDER BROTHER HAS AN “EMPLOYEE COMPLEX” BUT GOD WANTS TO HAVE A “FATHER-CHILD” LOVE RELATIONSHIP

GALATIANS 4:4-7 GOD SENT HIS SON, BORN OF A WOMAN, BORN UNDER THE LAW, 5 TO REDEEM THOSE UNDER THE LAW, THAT WE MIGHT RECEIVE ADOPTION TO SONSHIP. 6 BECAUSE YOU ARE HIS SONS, GOD SENT THE SPIRIT OF HIS SON INTO OUR HEARTS, THE SPIRIT WHO CALLS OUT, “ABBA, FATHER.” 7 SO YOU ARE NO LONGER A SLAVE, BUT GOD’S CHILD

BELONG TO GOD - THE FATHER
