Welcome to the Dorset LDPB annual event at the Exchange Sturminster Newton

“Your money or your life!”

“Your money and your life!”

We are here today to talk about what resources, information and support are available for you to live the life you want and own the responsibilities that come with it You’ll be introduced to some great new ideas throughout the day Find out if you think there is enough help to support those people who get a service have a say in their service and are encouraged when appropriate, to think about designing their support a little differently? Is the information and support good enough? Should there be more.. If so what that should be?

You must be wondering what choices are there to make? Its all about owning your life Having the tools and support to help you remain in control Finding the support to live it! – Benefits, assistive technology, transport, community cost free solutions and any DCC/Health funding* Accessing the right information Housing/Employment/ Education/Training and Volunteer options not linked to FACS Ultimately becoming a valued person in your community ‘Live the life not the label!’ dotcomunity event here on the 25 th Oct

What is out there to help me? Person centred planning tools for the journey: Where you are now Where you what to be How you want to achieve it? What’s working well? What needs to change? There are PCP leads in all Dorset day centres and community teams they will support you at your review. Enham can also help you to think about these things. Or.. Some of you may want to do it yourselves if you had the right tools

The workshops today are going to briefly give you some of the basic information and resources so you can see if you have things right so far... They will also point you in the direction of some of the main resources that are available to you

My Life My Life!

What is out there in my community to do? Cowdens Farm

Work, &

Managing my money [benefits]

Lets warm up those brains so you have some really good questions in the workshops!

My Life My Life! Respite* was providing parents with a good break Confidence to move out into his own home growing Living in my own home Doing my own cooking Volunteering Respite * was in a big residential setting no chance to practice my skills Day centre was 16 miles away and doing mostly leisure activities I am given the chance to make choices and learn from my mistakes

Becoming a volunteer

DRAMA

Gregory Mason GARDEN

If we took on a personal budget what would we have to do?

Services organising things! The manager of the centre has these tasks to do in order to provide a service. Staff ratiosWho is attending Find activities

Over to Families! What is going on in our community? What activities are out there? How can we find someone to share the activity with if the budget doesn’t cover the cost? Where do we find a PA/Agency?

GEORGE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SERVICES LIAM HELEN Maintaining friendships KEYRING PROVIDER 4 HOSPITAL UNIT PROVIDER 3 RESIDENTAIL HOME What seemed to be missing was a place where I could find like minded families who were trying to find meaningful day opportunities, source support to take them so we didn’t have to do all the running about ourselves

So how does People & Places help?

We’d like walkingWe want Gardening

Where did I see that advertisement for volunteers at the allotment? I see there is a cluster asking for walking event in the Glastonbury area

Encouraging others to join in When you ‘view’ the details of the activity You will be able to see who else has already signed up to going! It will encourage those who are too shy to try something alone, to have a go if they see someone they recognise going too Encouraging others to join in

2.5 Days £ Days 4 Days 5 Days 5.5 Days £8 phr £10 phr £12 phr £15 phr £24 a session

How can we make services listen? It is a mission: Impossible... or is it?

Collating the information allows community coordinators to source opportunities and focus scarce resources in the best direction ReadingVolunteering

Staying safe travelling to an event or meeting up with a friend There is an NOCN course that can teach you this Understanding money and managing your finances There is an NOCN course that can support you with this Meeting and getting to know new people in the community There is an NOCN course that can help you with this Running a micro enterprise/Time banking and volunteering takes a lot of different skills to make it happen There is an NOCN course that can give you those skills Learning to cook and planning a meal with friends There is an NOCN course that can deliver this Harnessing Adult Learning to reduce reliance on services

How important do you think it is that people become the best they can be? What makes you nervous about it? What do you think will be the impact on current services if those able to do not ‘move on’ as more young people with complex needs are coming into the service? It is the LDPB responsibility to ensure those who are not eligible for support are signposted to local community solutions How do you think the council could provide resources for it’s service users that were also accessible for others too – Access to Changing places, Library of step by step prompts Hireable equipment evenings and weekends? What if I’m not eligible or become too able to continue to receive a service?

What do we want to see happen in your own areas? Social services Health Education Community services Voluntary sector Providers Parent carers People with a Learning disability What commitment do we need from one another?
