Working On the Eco-trail Pulled up an excessive amount of Knot-weed on the outskirts of the trail by the creek. Raked the path Moved debris to the compost pile

BEFORE!

AFTER!

Eco-Trail Impact on Campus Community Allows students to escape the hectic life of college to enjoy nature. Our class helped to make the trail a more appealing and tranquil place to escape to. Picking up litter on the trail provides a more eco- friendly environment for both humans and wildlife.

Problems Encountered on Eco-Trail Vandalism Littering

HECK Weatherization Project Assist homeowners in the downtown Buffalo area with energy conservation measures Things we helped out with were weather stripping, caulking, and hot water pipe and heater insulations. We worked with a experienced craftsman (Don) who helped us complete required tasks for each house. Completed 4 houses

What we learned from HECK? There is an extensive amount of people who can’t afford their heating bill each month in the urban area. Therefore they look for different ways to heat their home or they go without any heat.

Pelion Garden Weeded Trimmed bushes Covered the grass by the curb with cardboard and then dirt. Mulched Used a pick axe.

Raking mulch! Dumping mulch!

Working the Pickaxe

Pelion Garden BEFORE

Pelion Garden AFTER

The Garden by the Soup Kitchen Weeded Disassembled the poles and unknotted the strings and vines Picked fresh vegetables Prepped garden for winter Put down mulch

Untangling string and vines! Brussel Sprout stalk!

Community Gardens Impact Provide the community with vegetables that are inexpensive. Healthy eating alternatives Encourage people to eat organic foods The gardens allow people to become active outside.

Campus Sustainability One way to encourage campus sustainability is to educate Daemen students about how to go green and what impact we have on the environment. The electronic drop- off at the Environmental Summit.

Future “Green” Ideas We could plant fruits and vegetables near the trail so Wick could use them for meals. Or we could donate the grown products to a good cause so someone in need could use them.
