Organisational Basics All business sectors and projects will be Social Enterprises – primarily Community Interest Companies – a social enterprise is an organisation or project that has primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community All business sectors and projects will have an umbrella organisation mirrored into the Community Primary Ethics – Sustainable (in all areas) – Collaborative – Innovative in all technologies and thinking

Key Terms Community – Any group of three or more that have an interaction in any environment. Common conditions such as intent, belief, resources, preferences, needs, risks, experience, work, play may be evident singularly or in any combination. Sustainability – The capacity to endure. Collaboration – The process where two or more people or organisations work together in an intersection of common goals Innovation – Change in the thought process for doing something, or the useful application of new inventions, methods, experience or discoveries Definitions used by We-Community

Key Terms Stakeholder – A person, group, organisation, or system who affects or can be affected by an action Enabling – Patterns of interaction which allow individuals to develop and grow Quality – Fit for the intended purpose Value – The relationship between satisfying needs and expectations and the resources required to achieve them

Key Terms Opportunity Cost – the cost related to the next-best choice available to someone who has picked between several mutually exclusive choices Project – A temporary organisation created for the purpose of delivering one or more agreed products, outputs or impacts Output – What can be measured from the actions of a system, process, project or work Impact The consequences of possible and actual outputs, proposals and interventions

Key Terms Environment – The surroundings of a person, organism, object, idea or system Risk – The product of the probability of an event resulting in an adverse or favourable event, times the severity of the event Management – Human action, including design, to facilitate the production of useful outcomes from a system. People manage things and tasks Leadership – Process of influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task. People motivating people

Aims We-Community will: – Understand the appropriate techniques and methodologies – Enable a group to decide whether it is a community – Help the community to evaluate its sustainability issues and needs – Produce the tools and inform the stakeholders of the resulting results, issues and tools available – Enable the Community to create a state of collaborative innovation – Enable the Community to establish Social Enterprises to generate sustainable impacts – Monitor, review and give ad hoc guidance and help – Provide economies of scale through integration and shared facilities

Framework Sustainability and Organic Growth – We-Community is a generic holistic framework that allows ideas, systems and methodologies to be researched, implemented, reviewed and adapted sustainably and instigated at the appropriate level – Based on Prince2 Project Management – Enabling best practice Community Development & Cohesion and Sustainability

We-Group The strategic arm of We-Community holds the responsibility for compliance to the aims, legislation and ethics. It is responsible for the Intellectual Property & Sustainability (We-Protect), Marketing (We-Promote) and Enabling (We-Enable) of We- Community and will ensure all of We-Community has common and equal access to assets in a cost- free manner

Embedded Sustainability Every action has sustainability at its core; building it in at all stages and is the over- riding principle within the impacts on the environment, society and profit

Project Uniquity All projects are unique; they share dynamic commonalities in varying amounts that have an impact on each other.

Uncertainty & Risk All projects involve uncertainty and need to be aware of them, understand, measure and review them and react appropriately Uncertainty brings risks. Risk can have potentially negative and positive impacts on the project and beyond

Stakeholder Management Stakeholder position, size, impact and relevance changes over time within the project, aligned with the project or outside

Collaborative Innovation A self-organising Cross- functional network involved in a project or body of work that share responsibilities and impacts for risk, benefit, costs, experience and knowledge gained from their input and output. There is a correlation between the small amount of individual collaboration and the increased benefits enjoyed by all.

Current Projects We-Build The Project responsible for the interest of and in the Built Environment – We-Home; the design and provision for rented housing in the community – We-Cycle; the promotion and advancement of cycling and cycling facilities in London for the Olympic Games, the Legacy and communities in general – We-Walk/We-Jog; the promotion and advancement of walking and walking facilities in London for the Olympic Games, the Legacy and communities in general

Current Projects We-Think The project responsible for the research, training and reasoning for all stakeholders – We-Train; the provision of training within We- Community and for external stakeholders and Social Enterprises – We-Research; the examination of best practice and current methodologies and innovation – We-CoIN; the promotion of Collaborative Innovation Networks

Current Projects We-Entertain The project responsible for cultural and community interactions based around the creative industries – We-Art; the promotion and provision of art within the community – We-Music; the promotion and provision of music within the community – We-Craft; the promotion and provision of crafts within the community

Current Projects We-Garden The project responsible for creating communal community gardens designed to: – Create new open spaces – Teach children and non-gardeners – Grow food and produce for members and sale – Enable community cohesion

Current Projects We-Cycle The project responsible for providing community cycling and cycle hubs that allow the hire and use of cycles within and between communities and the provision of places to park cycles, leave goods and belongings, facilities for washing, changing and eating and bringing sustainable transport, training and exercise to all in the community
