Leg Compression Sleeve Rquirement (3-5-3)  The specifications for leg compression sleeves were added because of the frequent use of these sleeves for non-medical reasons.  The specifications match those of arm compression sleeve.  They must be white, black, beige, or a single solid school color. The sleeve must be the same color for each team member and have only a single manufacturer's logo that does not exceed 2 1/4 square inches. The sleeve must be worn for medical reasons only.

Granting Time-Out  Officials must be diligent to recognize the calling of a timeout by the coach and determine that it is at the appropriate time.  It is suggested that coaches add a visual signal to the verbal call for a time-out.  Officials must know the status of the ball and whether there is player control before granting the request.

Intentional Foul  An intentional foul is a personal or technical foul that may or may not be premeditated and is not based solely on the severity of the act. It is contact that: Neutralizes an opponent’s obvious advantageous position.

Three-Person Mechanics Change  A foul is called in the back court going to the front court with no free-throws to administer: The calling official should move to the foul reporting area and give the appropriate information of the player and then signal. The official will then move to a position that is moving forward to a position tableside in most instances.

Three-Person Mechanic Change The current mechanic slows down the game and is awkward. Frequently officials do not get to the reporting area because they know they are going to go back to the baseline This change makes it consistent with other foul situations – we switch on all fouls.

DEAD BALL OFFICIATING Officials should keep all players in the field of vision. Officials should not turn their backs on any situation. The non-calling official(s) should step in, using his/her voice and presence to defuse situations if necessary. | 38 |

DEAD BALL OFFICIATING  Communicate with partners on why play has been stopped and what actions are to be taken.  If an official must leave the spot of a throw-in or free throw, put the ball down at the spot. During free throws the trail official has responsibility for the players outside the three point arc.  All officials should be observing players while lining up in the lane spaces and after the ball becomes live. | 39 |

Coaches’ Education Requirement –NFHS “FUNDAMENTALS OF COACHING” All non-faculty (non-teaching, certified personnel) and All newly hired coaches (new to your LEA, and have not passed the course) must complete and pass the certification –If currently a non-faculty coach, certification course must be completed prior to first day of practice. –On-line nfhslearn.com Cost of course is $35 and is a one-time completion requirement to be nationally certified. –Target date of August 1, 2015 for all coaches to be certified
