BREAKDOWN OF FAMILY Abdelhak El Mansouri

FAMILY  The original meaning of family is commitment and strong bonds.  Today people are not as committed, so they have weaker bonds.  Parents abandon their children more easily.  Children prefer not to have strong relationships with their parents.  Many factors have helped in this disappearing of family values.

MEANINGLESS SEX  In Brave New World, one of the things the “civilized” do is meaningless sex.  Today, by having sex with many different women, one forgets about the importance of affection and bonds.  Having a lot of sex may end up in having a baby, making the parent dislike the baby and serve as a simple vessel for the baby’s growth.

DISTRACTIONS  In Brave New World, the government gives distractions, such as T.V.s, to people so that they could be easily controlled.  Today, these distractions make the parents too busy to take good care of their children, resulting in weaker bonds between the members.

CONDITIONING  The government in Brave New World takes control of the children and does not allow the people to read books.  People are conditioned this way so that they could be easier to control.  The government is afraid of love because they believe that it might be the start of a reaction.

STATS  U.S divorce rate is 53%.  Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Luxembourg are at over 60%.  Highest is Belgium with 70%  Chile is the lowest with 3%
