What is Cadbury Schweppes? Largest confectionary manufacturer in the world and major drink company Controls many brands such as Cadburys Chocolate, Trident, Snapple, Halls, Dr. Pepper, and Dentyne Composed of Cadbury Dairy Milk and Schweppes, merged in 1969. Headquarters in London, UK

Basic Statistics Employs over 67,000 people Sales for 2006: $14,550,200,000 with net profit of $2,025,7000,000 Sales growth in 2006: 29.7% Two main companies plan to demerge to become Cadburys and Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc

Cadbury’s Products

Cadbury Schweppes and Carbon Cadbury Schweppes currently emits 1.5 million tons of Carbon Dioxide a year. Variety of sources: factory emissions, parts and packaging manufacturing, product transportation Absolute goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50% from 2007 levels by the year 2020 with 30% coming from “in-company” actions

Position on Climate Change As a large and well known company, Candbury wants to do its part to fight global climate change Steve Driver, President Global Supply Chain: "Cadbury Schweppes is absolutely committed to tackling climate change. We are re-thinking the way we do business, embedding sustainability into every decision we take”  In 2007 they pledged to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions by 50% by the year 2020. Some emission reducing steps: switching to alternative fuels; building new plants

More Climate Change Position Created “Purple Goes Green” initiative: to reducing packaging and water usage Supply Chain Leadership Collaboration - multinationals partnering to reduce carbon dioxide Prints “carbon footprints” on some products, that estimate carbon emissions. Educates employees on being environmentally friendly.

Climate Change Position Is listed in Climate Leadership Index by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Named global best in class for response to climate change for 4 consecutive years by CDP CDP says is “distinguished by its strategic awareness of the risks and opportunities of climate change, as well as the quality and effectiveness of programmes put in place to reduce emissions”

Tackling Climate Change 3 Ways Using alternative energy sources, especailly renewable energy Reducing current emissions Emissions offsetting

Embracing Alternate Energy Canada headquarters buys its energy from an electricity supplier that uses wind and low-impact hydro-generators Overall switch to low or zero carbon fuels Purchase electricity on renewable energy tariffs Install "renewable energy" generation on-site (solar, wind, biofuel)

Reducing Carbon Emissions Reduced carbon emissions intensity by 15% since 1990. In 2005, changed coal-fired boilers to natural gas boilers in Bournville, UK; Reducing their global emissions by 1% Aim to reduce emmisions by 750k tones.

Offsetting Emissions As a last resort, Cadburys will reduce carbon by incentivising Saving and Switching by others Purchase "carbon offsets" or buy (and retire) "carbon credits" for any remaining carbon emissions Neil Makin (the Group External Affairs Director) says this whould not occur since they have launched “Purple goes Green.”
