GEOSS ADC Architecture Workshop Session 3c Test Facility for GEOSS Registration Paul Smits EC-JRC

Outline Introduction Structure of session 3c Results –Purpose –Processes and procedures –Components of the Testing Facility

Introduction Background –Services that are registered need to support standard interfaces as Interoperability Arrangements. –A new functionality for 2008 is the establishment of a network accessible test facility that support service providers to test if their services meet the standards used as GEOSS Interoperability Arrangements

Structure of session 3c Round table on requirements and expectations Look at broader context Structuring the remarks Agreement on purpose, process and procedures, and components of the Testing Facility

Results – Purpose of Testing Facility Objectives of the Testing Facility should go further than supporting service providers to test if their services meet GEOSS Interoperability Arrangements

Results – Purpose of Testing Facility Foster convergence on core standards Foster collaboration geared towards ensuring interoperability of registered components and services Foster cross-community implementations Provide feedback to the users of Testing Facility, the main users being –Service operators –Integrators, technology providers Shortening of prototyping cycle

Results – Processes and procedures Create Testing Facility in line with GEO principles –Federation –Avoid duplication of efforts, link to resources offered to GEO Scenario development, link to use case from UIC –Involve users of specific communities –Prioritize the components of the testing facility based on use case (May 2008 session?) In particularly important for testing of models Test Facility should provide feedback to standardisation organisations Permanent character of Testing Facility is important

Results – Components of the Testing Facility Portal-like function: identify appropriate testing resources Collect feedback to standardisation organisations Testing Facility should provide feedback on –Syntactic interoperability –Semantic interoperability –Availability and reliability Feedback to technology and service providers Aspects of quality of service should be taken into account –Tools that monitor behaviour of services, aspects of quality –Where is service propagated from, authorative service provider
