Friday November 15 The school that Matt goes to is selling tickets to a choral performance. On the first day of ticket sales the school sold 12 adult tickets and 3 student tickets for a total of $129. The school took in $104 on the second day by selling 2 adult tickets and 6 student tickets. Find the price of an adult ticket and the price of a student ticket. The senior class at High School A and High School B planned separate trips to the water park. The senior class at High School A rented and filled 8 vans and 4 buses with 256 students. High School B rented and filled 4 vans and 6 buses with 312 students. Each van and each bus carried the same number of students. How many students can a van carry? How many students can a bus carry?

In Lesson 4.2.3, you learned how to use the Elimination Method to solve systems of equations. In this method, you combined two equations in a way that made one variable disappear. This method is particularly useful for solving systems of equations where neither equation is in y = mx + b form. Today you will practice using the elimination method while learning to deal with various complications that systems of equations sometimes present. As you solve these systems, ask your teammates these questions: How can you create one equation with only one variable? How can you eliminate one variable? How do you know your solution is correct?

Forms of a Linear Function There are three main forms of a linear function: slope- intercept form, standard form, and point-slope form. Study the examples below. Slope-Intercept form: y = mx + b. The slope is m, and the y- intercept is (0, b). Standard form: ax + by = c Point-Slope form: y − k = m(x − h). The slope is m, and (h, k) is a point on the line. For example, if the slope is –7 and the point (20, –10) is on the line, the equation of the line can be written y − (−10) = −7(x − 20) or y + 10 = −7(x − 20).
