Tony Tran | ITEC 4110 | Advanced Digital Media | February 2009

 Introduction of myself and ITEC4900  Vector versus Bitmap Imaging  Vector software- Inkscape  Bitmap software- Gimp  Projects

 Tony Tran  Former student of Dr. Chen’s ITEC  Current student of Dr. Rowan’s ITEC  Currently working on a Gimp Portfolio doing glamour quality bitmap photo editing.  ITEC 4110  Advanced Digital Media currently taught only by Dr. Rowan.  Specializes in service to 2110 & creating advanced projects using 2110 used software.  4 credit hour class, recommended for IT majors.

 Vector- Elegant way of constructing digital images whose representations is compact, scalable, and easier to edit.  Are attractive to networked multimedia.  Based upon shapes and can be described mathematically. ▪ Ex.  Marketing, using the same image but on different products such as T-shirts, coffee mugs, posters, billboards.

 Bitmap-

 Inkscape- vector based program used for SVG files.  SVG- stands for Scalable vector graphics

 Gimp- Bitmap based program used for non SVG files such as jpeg, bmp, tiff, and gif.  Ability to animate still images.  Edit using multiple layers.  Similar features to that of Adobe Photoshop.  It’s FREE!

 Purpose- To expose yourself to the ease and convenience of SVG files compared to JPEG files.  Outcome- To create a digital signature to include in your Gimp Project.

 Purpose- To expose yourself to the difficulties of editing bitmap images and experiencing photo editing.  Outcome- To create a unique image of your choice following a variety of methods such as blurring, color modifications, color-level alterations and opacity changes.
