 What are some barriers you face as a community college student?  Write down 3 barriers on the post its you were given  When you are done, place them on the wall *Note - We will be sharing with each other

 Financial – Having enough money to come to school  Balance – managing time between school, work and home  Don’t know what to major in  Study Skills – self-management and motivation  Takes longer than you think?  Classes are challenging?  Courses are full  Technology – not being able to keep up with technology in education  Family support – family doesn’t understand rigor of college  Returning after being in the work force or raising family?

 Split into groups  What ideas does your group have for overcoming the assigned category?  Write your ideas on a post it and get ready to share with larger group

Financial  Apply for financial aid and scholarships:  FAFSA, Hawaii Community Foundation, Ke Ali’i Pauahi Foundation  Apply for financial at   Apply by April 1st

Balance – managing time between school, work and home  SOS -Time management workshops  Managing a calendar  Prioritize  Plan ahead – study time, family time, sleep time

Study Skills – self-management and motivation Technology – not being able to keep up with technology in education  SOS workshops – Many offerings for all areas refer to brochure  Goal setting – short and long term  Communicate with your instructor!  What motivates you?

Takes longer than you think? Classes are challenging? Courses are full?  See academic advisor to choose classes that count towards your degree  Seek tutoring or other support services  Register on time – Check registration schedule and mark in your calendar
