Assemblies in Inventor ADVANCED MANUFACTURING SPRING 2014

What are Assemblies? Assemblies are collections of parts along with information about how they go together Assemblies let you take multiple simple part files and combine them into one larger piece Assemblies MAKE YOUR WORK EASIER

Getting Started Create a project file Create a new assembly file Place and constrain parts

What you can do with assemblies Create more complex objects Import parameters Create parts based on other parts Animate and simulate

Assembly Constraints Assembly constraints ◦Mate/align ◦Angle ◦Tangent ◦Insert ◦Symmetry

Your assignment Model a hinge ◦Go to scroll down to “Hinges”, and find a hinge that you will model – choose one that is not symmetricwww.mcmaster.com ◦When you select the hinge, you can get 2D drawings of the hinge for measurements ◦Create a folder – call it “yourlastname partnumber” ◦Create a project file – call it “yourlastname partnumber” ◦Create part files ◦You will be expected to model efficiently – don’t use an excessive number of features, and use named dimensions where appropriate ◦You should create at least one part from within the assembly ◦Create assembly from part files - save it as “yourlastname partnumber” ◦This assignment will be worth 30 points ◦15 points for a good representation of your chosen hinge ◦10 points for an efficiently modeled part ◦5 points for an appropriate choice of hinge ◦5 point deduction for improper file setup ◦Due at end of next class – will be collected on a flash drive
