 Possessive nouns are used to show possession (owning, or having).

Singular Possessive Noun  Shows that one person, place, or thing has or owns something

Rules for singular possessive nouns  To make most singular nouns show possession, add an apostrophe (‘) and “ s” a bird’s song  If the singular noun ends in an “s” add an apostrophe (‘) after the “s” my class’ fieldtrip

Examples of Singular Possessive Nouns

The dog's collar is too large. The word "dog's" is the possessive noun. It tells you that the noun "collar" belongs to the dog. The dog owns, or possesses the collar. Add 's to the end of the singular noun to make it possessive.

Plural Possessive Nouns  A plural possessive noun shows that more than one person, place, or thing has or owns something.
