Killer Quotes: Using Big Tobacco’s own words against them...

From an R.J. Reynolds executive, as recounted by a former Winston model: “We don’t smoke [it]. We just sell it. We reserve the right to smoke for the young, the poor, the black and the stupid.”

Terrence Sullivan, a sales representative for R.J. Reynolds says: “We were targeting kids, and I said at the time it was unethical and maybe illegal, but I was told it was just company policy.” Sullivan remembers someone asking who exactly were the young people R.J. Reynolds was targeting - junior high school kids or even younger? The reply was: “They got lips? We want them.”

Where do we start??

To search:  By key word (youth, candy flavor, animal testing, etc.)  Browse the “Popular Docs”  Search by tobacco company  Watch the “tutorial” video for all the tips...

Why Tobacco Docs?  The tobacco industry targets youth, women, minorities, the LGBT community, and homeless people as “replacement customers”  They’ve used music, movies, sports, prizes, and more to market a deadly and addictive product  They test their products on dogs, baboons, rabbits, hamsters, rats, mice, and roosters  They are targeting developing countries as their next major markets  They’ve been lying about all of this for decades  There’s nothing better than using Big Tobacco’s own words against them!

“The base of our business is the high school student.” Lorillard, 1978 “Today’s teenager is tomorrow’s potential regular customer.” Philip Morris, 1981 “If our company is to survive and prosper over the long term we must get our share of the youth market.” R.J. Reynolds, 1973
