Introduction PREGINET, is a national research and education network (NREN) It interconnects institutions for research and education activities and spearheads the development of applications on areas such as: –distance education –Telemedicine –Agriculture –disaster monitoring –network technologies.

AI3 Membership The Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI) became a partner of the Asian Internet Interconnection Initiative (AI3) in August It established its earth station and became part of the AI3 network on March 3, 2000.

ASTI AI3 Network

ASTIs AI3 Committee Steering Committee Denis Villorente –Director, ASTI Operators Committee Bayani Benjamin R. Lara –AI3 Coordinator

Updates on AI3 Link We are encountering some routing problems on our network when we enable BGP peering with AI3 Some random sites are Timing Out and some mails to Japan from our partners are getting lost in transit Another incident was when some Japanese staff from Tokyo University visited ASTI and tried to have a vcon sessions with their university. The vcon session did not work until the AI3 link was temporarily shut down. We will consult with Husni/Sirokuma on the AI3 routing policy, to effectively solve the problem

Country Updates VoIP Initiatives –90 VoIP enabled phones deployed –PSTN gateways to 13 major cities –Focuses on ITU-T H.323, SIP, Asterix PBX and IAX protocol –Has made international partnerships with Vide.net and Internet2 Commons for peering to the Philippine gatekeeper Involved on the ENUM international trial

Country Updates Courseware TASSIS (Server part) Involved in the Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP) for deployment to schools for low cost dumb terminals

Country Updates Involved in the beowulf cluster deployment for the Philippine weather bureau (PAGASA) Upgraded our MAFFIN link to APAN (Tokyo) from 6Mbps to 155Mbps
