Friction and lubricants LO: To describe how lubricants reduce friction

Well………. What did we learn in the last lesson? -Friction is a …………… that occurs between two bodies. -Rough surfaces have ………….. friction than smooth surfaces

What causes the match to light? Can you LINK this idea?

So… What did we find out…. -Friction can be reduced if the surface is made smoother. -Substances that smooth the surfaces in between two bodies are known as lubricants.

But how do they work?!?! The particles fill the gaps in the rough surfaces and makes them smooth, this reduces the friction.

Link…..

Task: Write a set of bullet points for planning an investigation into lubricants. You have the following items: Newton meter Shoe Oil Water Extension task: - What would you do to make sure this investigation was a fair test? - Are there any possible safety issues with your investigation?
