The official Mints of ten European countries are cooperating in the 'European Medal Club, EMC'. The first medal minted in 2001 by the EMC countries is a silver one with the theme 'Europe and bull/Zeus'; the millennia old symbol of the European continent based on the classical Greek myth. Since the post-war development towards a political European entity, this Europe symbol is used by the Press as the symbol of the present European Union. Each medal features its own interpretation of the Europe myth c.q. symbol, accompanied with the heraldic device IN VARIETA CONCORDIA of the European Union.
