Family Orientation Academic Overview College of Arts and Sciences Lisa Celovsky David Gallant /Tim Brown

Magic Number = 126 credits to graduate (4 Years =8 semesters x 4 (4 credit) courses = 128)

A Typical Semester: 4 classes (16 credits) Full-Time = credits (3 or 4 classes plus 1 credit ) Most classes in the college are 4 credits “Credit Hour”: Federal Government Definition (roughly, for every class hour, add 2 more hours of outside work)

As per the Department of Education: A 4-credit class equates to a minimum of 12 hours of work per week for 15 weeks (approximately 3 hours inside the classroom, and 9 hours of study outside the classroom) 4 credits x 3 hours = 12 hours 12 hours x 4 classes = 48 hours

What If a Class Needs to be Dropped or Changed? MySuffolk 9/9: last day to add, drop, or change schedule (50% tuition liability begins 9/10) Late drop dates: 9/17 (75% tuition liability), 9/24 (100% liability), 10/30 (last day to drop w/o F grade)

Magic Number = 126 credits to graduate (4 Years =8 semesters x 4 (4 credit) courses = 128)

Core Gen. Ed. Requirements: Accreditors and Faculty Examples: Writing, Ethics, Science, Literature, Social Science, etc. Some requirements have limited course options. Example: Writing = WRI 101 Some requirements have many course options. Examples: Social Science (choose from dozens and dozens), Ethics (choose from 3) Some ‘double-count.’

Rationale? Some match up clearly: ‘Written Communication’ = WRI Some contain more than one: WRI 102 contains ‘Information Literacy’ Some are determined by mission – Seminar for Freshmen – Cultural Diversity – Expanded Classroom Requirement (ECR)

Co-Curricular Study Abroad Service Experiences Internships Competitions and Research Opportunities Clubs and Organizations

Accelerated and Non-Traditional Options for Completion combined undergrad and grad degrees 3+3 undergrad and law degree Study tours and 6-week Madrid term Summer tuition and housing discounts Online options (including 4-week Winter session in December and January)

Scheduling Models MWF (3 x 50 minutes) TTh & MW (2 x 75 minutes) 3 hours once per week Evening options Online and Hybrid
