Welcome to... The Big Picture

This presentation contains a sequence of images. The Big Picture Each image shows slightly more of one big picture. After each image is added your teacher will ask if you know what the picture shows. One person will be chosen to explain their idea. Everyone else will then have to say whether they agree or disagree with this. If the person making a guess is wrong and you agreed with that person then you are out and the game moves onto the next round.

An X-ray of an ankle joint The Big Picture

The End

Starter Activity - Break A Leg Teachers Notes This presentation consists of a sequence of slides showing successively larger portions of an X- ray. The X-ray is of an ankle joint. After each slide students should be asked to put up their hands and volunteer a guess as to what the ‘big picture’ might be. Choose one student to explain their guess and then ask the rest of the class if they agree or disagree with that guess. This can be done with a show of hands. If the guess was wrong all those students who agreed with it are ‘out’ and the activity proceeds to the next round. If a correct guess is made clicking on the ‘and the answer is...’ link at the bottom of each slide will take you to the final picture. The activity can be made harder or easier depending on how exact you wish the students answers to be. To make the activity easier, simply accepting ‘an X-ray’ as the answer will work or to make it harder you may want to insist on ‘an X-ray of an ankle joint’. To ensure that this starter activity is used effectively, students must not be told what the subject of the lesson will be prior to its use.
