Day 11 English 10

Review Skill from “Everyday Use” What is an “unreliable narrator”? Why would a narrator be considered reliable or unreliable? What was Mama in “Everyday Use”?

Test Prep Question of the Day “Basketball Blues” by Raquel Lindel Looking at the hard, plaster cast that extended from her hand to her shoulder, Jillian groaned for the billionth time. She couldn't believe that—in a split second—she had broken her arm in two places and had ruined her chances of becoming the leading scorer on the girls' varsity basketball team. She thought back to the moment that had led to her current situation. What seemed at the time as a snappy solution quickly snowballed into a catastrophe. About which topics would Jillian be considered a reliable narrator? A) the pain she feels in her broken arm B) her value to the team in an athletic aspect C) her value to the team in a managerial aspect D) the pain her coach feels for losing her as a player

Friendship Constitution Break into groups of 4-5 students who will serve as a "friendship committee." Each group is responsible for listing 10 qualities or traits that qualify a person as a friend. You should also list 5 friendship infractions that could cause the possible absolving of a friendship.

Friendship Constitution Representative Elect a Friendship Constitution Representative who will represent your group at a Friendship Summit. The purpose of this summit will be to derive a class Friendship Constitution incorporating ideas from each group.

Friendship Summit Have the Friendship Summit meet in front of the whole class. The final Friendship Constitution should include a representative 10 friendship traits and 5 friendship infractions, selected from the individual groups' work. Each Representative should attempt to include at least two of her group's ideas in the final Constitution. At the end of the process, the Summit should vote on its proposed Constitution.

After-Questions What do you feel you would alter or change? Could you draw any conclusions about coming to a consensus in a large group? What is the role of personal friendships in creating a group governing structure? How easy is it to maintain friendships in a political context?

Remember While Reading Antigone Post the Friendship Constitution in the classroom. As you read, return to the Constitution when examining the actions of the main characters. How often do the characters live up to the class expectations? How often are they in default?
