Be aware of your surroundings and hazards. Know where the assembly/evacuation point is. Know your escape routes. Develop an emergency plan with your family / flatmates. Collect the phone numbers of any staff you are responsible for and your manager; store these in your phone and print a copy. Top up your emergency backpack with items that you might need. Massey wants all its staff and students to be part of ShakeOut; more than one million people are participating. ShakeOut is: A good way to practice and prepare at work and at home: –Take part in the drill at 9:26am –Later in the day, plan and prepare with your colleagues and your family/househod in the evening. A way for organisations to test their emergency plans. What is ShakeOut?

In the lead up to ShakeOut you will see: Campus briefings and distribution of items for inclusion in your emergency backpack. Emergency webpages ( with links to: –videos and other resources for you to use with your students and colleagues. A competition for staff and students to win additional emergency equipment. What Massey is doing

Staff and students can enter the draw to win Kathmandu backpacks, gift vouchers and other goodies. Competition categories (per Campus): Staff member teaching at 9:26am, on 26 September. Staff member not teaching at above time. Student Details at ShakeOut and win

At 9:26am: Remind your colleagues/students that it is ShakeOut time. Drop, Cover and Hold. Remain in position for 10 seconds or so. After the drill, we suggest: You hold a meeting to discuss emergency arrangements with your team. You ensure that you have contact details for your team. Staff teaching at the time may like to run through a short slide presentation (see next slide for hyperlink). What to do on 26 September
