Investigating jobs in IT Chris Homa

Business analyst The purpose of a business analyst is to bring daily challenges and responsibilities aimed at troubleshooting problems and providing solutions via intensive computer-based research and analysis. Essential tasks involve identifying areas within a business which need updating/improving and often working in tandem with the firm’s IT department.

Job requirements Most Business Analyst job placements require applicants with degree level qualifications. It is not compulsory to have a degree specifically related to this area because other subjects will provide suitable skills for these jobs. It is recommended to have degrees related to programming and IT subjects. A specific qualification for this area is the Diploma in Business Analysis offered by the Information Systems Examination Board.

Importance of job The Business Analyst role will be one of the most important roles in IT. This position that plays a critical role in deciphering the future for many businesses to come. A Business Analyst role acts as a bridge between business ideas and business capabilities, thus creating and scoping valuable changes and optimizations to business processes.

Characteristics of the job Origination: To be able to do the work and analyse data before the dead line. Communication: To be able to relay the data to the people in charge of the project at that time.

Network engineering What is it: A network engineer is some one the installs, maintaining and supporting a computer network for an organisation. Their job is to ensure maximum performance of their communication network, to support their client E.G. staff, costumers and suppliers. They have the ability to either work internally, in the company support team, only working for one client or externally, as part of an IT networking consultancy, working with varied amount of clients.

Job requirement Although this area of work is open to all candidates, a degree in the following subjects is likely to increase your chances of getting the job: •computer science •electrical/electronic engineering •physics •mathematics •computer software/computer systems engineering. An entry with an HND (Higher National Diploma) is possible. A diploma in computer studies/computer science, electrical/electronic engineering and software engineering would be most helpful in securing the job.

Importance of job Their work is influenced by the size and type of the employing organization. In a large company for example, a network engineer may have specific responsibility for one area of the system. In a small company, the engineer may be troubleshooter for almost any IT-related problem that arises.

Webmaster The Webmaster implements web pages, maintains content and oversees day-to-day management of the company website, and assures quality and filing integrity of web pages. Job requirements You will have: Strong web design skills which will include the ability to edit HTML and JavaScript skills. Proven Website Management experience. A thorough knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) techniques. Experience of running and evaluating online marketing campaigns, which will include the management of Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns.

Importance of job A web master is important to a company as they will maintain the website and update it when needed. This make it easier for the boss of the company as he know as well that they are improving the revenue of the company via (PPC)

Characteristics of the job Excellent communication skills: to be able to confidently and clearly relay information to people on a day to day biases. Attention to detail: to be able to see the minute detail in the work you have created and rectify the small mistake that has been made.

Project manager The purpose of a project manager it to ensure that the requirements set by the client are met. They also the project’s completion is on time and within budget and that everyone else is doing their job properly. Depending on the project, responsibilities can cover all aspects from the design stage through to completion and handover to the client. The project manager is leads by example and is expected to work as long as their staff will work for.

Job requirements You will need a good degree, preferably in a topic related to where you wish to work in. You will also need a significant body of experience in the appropriate field. You may also be required to be part of a professional or chartered body. It is also possible that you will need a full/clean drivers license.

Importance of job This job is important as they are the ones that organise the staff to get the project completed in the specified time set by the client. Also to ensure that the staff work quickly and efficiently while on that contract.

Characteristics of job Communication: This is needed as you have to be able to talk to people on a day to day biases, thus you need to be able to do that. team working: You need to have this as you will be working with lots of other employs. Organization: Needing to organised is good as you have to work to a dead line, you don’t want to disappoint the client as they might want to use your surfaces again in the future.

Network administrator Network administrators is responsible for connect different devices together to create a fast and efficient networks. They are also responsible for maintaining the links and solving any problems which may occur with the network at the point of time.

Job requirements Network administrators will need to understand how to connect devices to form a fast and efficient network. It helps if you have experience of networks running on specific network operating systems like Microsoft NT or 2000, or UNIX. There are a number of valuable qualifications such as Microsoft certified system engineer status or Cisco certified internetwork expert.

Importance of job This job is important to a company as they are the ones making sure that the network is working to its maximum capacity and efficiently. They are also important as they are constantly trying to fix bugs/problems in the network to make it assessable to the customer and the employers

Characteristics of the job Patience: to be able to work on a stressful task for a long period of time. Enthusiasm: to be able to work positively day to day with out lousing energy in the work. Team working skills: to be able to work in will a large group of people efficiently.

Software engineer Software engineer is responsible for the complete life cycle for new/modified software, from research and design to implementation, training and support. The skills of software engineers are called upon when operational problems are encountered with computer programs and applications.

Job requirements Most employers prefer candidates with a degree in a relevant subject such as computation, software engineering, physics, mathematics or electronics. For graduates without computing experience or an appropriate qualification, a postgraduate IT conversion course can be useful.

Importance of job This job is important as they are the ones that create the code to make the software that companies use to build up there companies. Also they are important as all to most companies need software engineers to build the thing they need.

Characteristics of the job Team working skills: to be able to work in a group and get the job done quickly and effectively. Ability to work to another’s design: to be able to resave and interpret others work and use it to create a better design.
