Reinventing Clubs and Seven Keys to Club Success

Volunteer Challenges  More Diverse  Less Time  Faster Pace  Competing Commitments (family, job)  Lack of Personal Connection We Have an Opportunity to Change!

New Tools Your Club, Your Way Seven Keys to Success Presidential Award

Your Club, Your Way Objective: To provide clubs with a format that will allow the members to customize the meetings to fit their needs.

Did you know that your club can change the way it meets?

Clubs Have a Choice!! Meeting Format Traditional – ceremonial, strict protocol Connected – “cyber” clubs, no formal meeting Combination – celebrates tradition…utilizes technology Taking care of business, effective and transparent

Reinvent Your General Meeting  What are the meeting/event goals? fun, service, information…what are members looking for?  Frequency? weekly, monthly, other  Date/time (and set time or varied?)

Reinvent Your General Meeting  Meals or Not? what…a meeting without a meal…is she crazy ?  Traditions? keep some, drop some, make up new ones?

Reinvent Your General Meeting  Protocol is a head table necessary…many young people say “no”  Dress Code? polo shirts instead of a business suit? (but I love my business suit!)  Family Friendly? how can we accommodate families?

Reinvent Your General Meeting  Channels of Communication? new forms of invitation or meeting notice – tweet?  Name the Event! call it a meeting, gathering or a rocking good time?

LCI Policy Regarding Attendance Change the way we think about member responsibilities…Moving away from attendance, moving toward meaningful involvement  Contribute talents  Contribute resources  Attendance is not mandatory

So Let’s Have Fun!! Break into Groups  Take 5 minutes  Complete your section of the Reinventing Your Meeting Survey as a table!  We will ask a few tables to report!

Too Much Change??? Phase in Change!  Try a new meeting format once a quarter to see how the members like it  Try changing an element or two of the meeting, not all at once

Customizing Your Meeting is a Good Start !
