Question Does the amount of time students wash their hands make a difference in how clean their hands are? Does the amount of time students wash their hands make a difference in how clean their hands are?

Hypothesis Yes, our class thinks that people who wash their hands longer have cleaner hands.

Materials Needed Glo Germ Glo Germ Black light Black light Soap Soap Water Water Dark room Dark room

Step-By-Step 1) Apply 2 drops of Glo Germ to hands. 1) Apply 2 drops of Glo Germ to hands. 2) Rub hands together. ( like lotion) 2) Rub hands together. ( like lotion) 3) Wash hands with soap and water for 10 sec. 3) Wash hands with soap and water for 10 sec. 4) Use black light in dark room to evaluate how clean they are. 4) Use black light in dark room to evaluate how clean they are. 5) Rate hands on check list. 5) Rate hands on check list.

Hand Washing Checklist 1. No orange 2. Little orange (around nails) 3. Partly orange (around nails between fingers, or wrist) 4. Mostly orange (in creases and crevices, around nails between fingers and on wrist) 5. Solid orange

Step-By-Step 6) Repeat steps 1-5 except wash hands for 45 sec. 7) Compare and graph results.

Results The people who washed their hands for 10 sec. didn’t get their hands all the way clean. The people who washed their hands for 45 sec. people got there hand a lot cleaner.

Conclusion Yes, our Hypothesis was right. No one scored a 4-5 when washing hands for 45 sec.We learned that even washing our own hands for 45 seconds isn’t long enough.
