Weardale Philosphy An emphasis on living together communally and taking responsibility for themselves by making their own beds, clearing down the dining room after meals, washing up after meal times, sweeping up, tidying their rooms, etc. Outdoor activities that are fun, adventurous and educational with a focus on learning skills for life such as assessing and managing risk.

Typical Daily Schedule 8.00am: Breakfast and washing up 9.00am/9.30am: Meet instructors One whole day or two half day activities led by instructors. 4.30pm/5.00pm: Finish daytime activities 5.30pm: Dinner and washing up 7.00pm: Evening activity 9.00pm: Evening activity ends and duty instructor hands over to visiting staff

Meals Breakfast: Consists of a hot option e.g. bacon and beans which is “booked” on the previous evening. Cereal, toast, jam/marmalade, tea and coffee are all available every morning in addition to the hot option. Lunch: Our packed lunch typically includes a sandwich (e.g. ham, cheese, tuna) which the pupils make themselves, plus crisps, fruit and cake or biscuits. On your arrival day we typically offer a hot meal (e.g. jacket potato with choice of fillings) as a first meal. Dinner: Typically includes soup or fruit juice as a starter, a main course (e.g. chicken dinner, pasta Bolognese, fish and chips, casserole) and a dessert (e.g. rice pudding, fruit crumble or sponge and custard).

Sleeping! Boys and girls are on separate floors. Children will select a partner. Pairs will then be matched to fill a dorm. The dorms vary from sleeping 4 to sleeping 22. Adults are in adjacent rooms. Pupils will be encouraged to let an adult know if there has been an accident so it can be dealt with quickly and quietly. Please speak to your child about this too.

Organisation Children will be in 5 activity groups, led by a Weardale instructor and accompanied by a leader from LPS. All groups will have a different Weardale experience tailored to the needs, confidence and experience of the group, the conditions on the day and the skills of the instructor. Children will take part in a selection of the following activities. This will be decided on a day by day basis.
