Polycom VSX 7000 Polycom brings to you best-in-class price/performance! Near CD Quality, Crystal Clear Audio TV-like, Smooth Motion Video Innovative Ease of Use Ultimate versatility Integration with The Polycom Office Near-CD Quality, Crystal Clear Audio Polycom delivers unparalleled audio as crystal clear and powerful as being in the same room. Proof Points: VSX Siren 14Plus software in addition to the integrated mid-range speaker, subwoofer and new 14 kHz microphone support all serve to pickup and deliver incredible audio from end-to-end. TV-like Video Using the most advanced technology, Polycom delivers exceptionally natural, smooth motion video. Proof Points: H.264 delivers twice the quality video at half the bandwidth required of a comparable H.263 call. For example, an H.264 called dialed at 256 kbps will look as good as an H.263 call at 512 kbps. This means that you can use much less bandwidth and still have great video quality on the call! Pro-Motion (60 fields per second full screen) displays a very high resolution image for a near TV like experience. Innovative Ease of Use New graphical user interface designed and customizable for “easy-to-use” everyday videoconferencing, and manageability. Proof Points: Customizable UI from simple to sophisticated; Polycom Dual Monitor Emulation; Polycom Kiosk mode, and Customizable Camera Icons Ultimate versatility Expandability options enable the VSX 7000 to be configured for any application Proof Points: VSX 7000 provides the highest quality audio and video, with the option to add additional displays, microphones, network modules, multipoint feature and more, so customers design the system that’s suited to their specific requirement. Integration with the Polycom Office In Q4 2003, GMS, PathNavigator and MGC products will all have new software releases that support the VSX 7000.
Crystal Clear Audio Unparalleled Audio – Just like you’re in the same room! Wideband Polycom Siren14 audio Supreme clarity so you hear every word Integrated mid-range speaker Consistent, robust sound every time High performance subwoofer Rich, deep bass and broad audio range Industry1st Polycom Siren 14 – gets even better, with an integrated speaker and subwoofer and a new table top microphone array. It’s so good, in fact, that we call it VSX Siren 14Plus! The software audio algorithms and the finely tuned hardware combine to deliver unbelievable audio quality. You have to hear it to believe it! VSX Siren 14Plus is always on, unless a call is made to non-Siren 14 system. While in a Siren 14 call, however, every word is heard from the speaker, regardless of a heavy accent or deep, bass voice, which are generally difficult to hear and understand. Now you can hear every word without having to work at it! The Integrated mid-range speaker, combined with the subwoofer, deliver phenomenal sound every time! Again, Polycom leads with AN INDUSTRY FIRST! The bass and treble on the speaker are adjustable, as is the subwoofer setting, to give the end user the ideal configuration for their environment (small rooms can be adjusted differently than larger rooms). Since the audio is delivered through the integrated sound system, there’s no reason to plug in the television speakers. No longer do you have to rely on poor quality TV speakers or fuss with the volume on the video system AND the television. Industry1st Less fatiguing, more productive meetings
Smooth Motion Video Breakthrough Video – for natural interaction Industry1st Most advanced video with H.264 High quality video, ideal for lower data rates Polycom ProMotion Looks like TV! Supports multiple display formats 16:9 for plasma displays or 4:3 for standard television monitors Video like you’ve never seen it. It just like being there! Polycom was the FIRST video conferencing company TO INTRODUCE H.264 on it products in February 2003 on the iPower. Polycom continues this technology leadership position by introducing H.264 on the new VSX 7000 set-top appliance product. A follow on software release for the EX/FX and VS4000 will also incorporate H.264. With H.264 video support, end users can now make video calls at lower bandwidths and STILL get the quality of higher bandwidth call. For example, an H.264 call at 256 kbps will look at sharp as an H.263 call at 512 kbps. The BENEFIT to the customer is cost savings and a great video experience. Now an organization can afford to implement video conferencing on their network without weighing down the entire infrastructure. Since the amount of bandwidth required to conduct business is reduced, so, too, is the ultimate cost of the network support. Polycom ProMotion is a higher resolution video experience, running 60 fields per second encoding, full screen. This feature is best suited for higher bandwidth calls (512 kbps and above) where high resolution is a requirement and the bandwidth is readily available. The quality is so good, it’s like watching your favorite DVD! The monitor setup in the interface gives the user the opportunity to set the display to fit 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios. This is ideal for installations that have a plasma display and wish to view the video and interface full screen. Just like being there!
Innovative Ease of Use Customizable User Interface – Ultimate flexibility Industry1st User definable home screen Dual Monitor Emulation Kiosk mode with scrolling marquee and preset call locations Industry specific camera icons Custom color themes Translated in 11 languages Polycom raises the bar, again, with a customizable user interface, the FIRST IN THE INDUSTRY! Over the years, Polycom has listened to customer feedback on what they liked and did not like about the ViewStation user interface and offered alternative suggestions. We’ve now taken those suggestions and incorporated them into an easy to use, easy to format, easy to manage on-screen user interface. Because every organization’s needs are different, so to can be the design of the home screen. The video administrator can configure the system with as many or as few options on the Place A Call screen as needed. The administrator can then choose from a variety of color themes, ring tones and language translations to suit the environment. Dual monitor emulation is a hit with organizations that are space constrained and have room for only a single display. For maximum ease-of-use, the video administrator can set up a scrolling marquee with instructions to choose a site to call. This takes away all decision making from the end user and eliminates support questions to the internal help desk. Because Polycom is sensitive to the needs of specific industries, we’ve added six different iconic libraries from which to choose camera icons! More on all these features in a moment. Simple enough for any user - Maximum control for video administrators
Dual Monitor Emulation Dual Monitor Emulation – Ultimate convenience! Single monitor video conferencing like you’ve never seen it Both near and far video sites appear on a single display Selectable image size Easily add content Industry1st Another INDUSTRY FIRST for Polycom is Dual Monitor Emulation! The VSX 7000 is the only system on the market to deliver the convenience and flexibility in a single display! Ideal for small rooms where space is a consideration, dual monitor emulation allows the user to configure the near and far video images to appear side-by-side, on the same screen! If the user has a wide screen plasma display, the interface can be set to display in 16:9 mode and the images will fill the entire width of the screen without distorting the images. Conversely, if the single monitor happens to be a 32” television monitor, the user would set the display mode to 4:3 and the images would still appear, side-by-side, in the correct aspect ratio. If content from People+Content is introduced into the call, the user may select to display the content on the left side of the monitor, filling a large portion of the screen, while still displaying the near and far video as PIP images, one above the other, on the right side of the monitor. So, any way you look at it, Dual Monitor Emulation provides viewing flexibility while saving the cost of additional displays! You only need a single display!
Unparalleled Performance What’s included VSX 7000 IP codec with subwoofer, single microphone and remote control H.264 video algorithm Polycom ProMotion VSX Siren 14Plus audio Customizable user interface Built-in security tools Call Detail Record (CDR) Multi-lingual Web Interface for remote management Support for 2 Mbps IP calls Audio error concealment Video error concealment Conference on demand Open, standards-based Industry1st Industry1st Industry1st Industry1st Industry1st At this point, you are probably wondering exactly what you get when ordering a VSX 7000. Included in the box is a VSX 7000 codec, a subwoofer, a remote control and one microphone as well as a documentation CD and all the necessary cables to get started. We have structured multiple SKUs, designed specifically for each region of the world. For example, the North American part # includes an NTSC camera, English remote control and cables appropriate for NA. In the UK, we have a different part # that includes a PAL camera, English remote control and the appropriate cabling for the UK. The same applies for other regions in Europe and Asia. On the right side, you see a list of all the high-level software features you get with the product. Most of these features are INDUSTRY FIRSTS from Polycom. Most of these features we’ve discussed already, but note that the built-in security tools and the CDR are available on ViewStations today. (Explain these if necessary.) Polycom introduces a new and improved video error concealment on the VSX that works very much like PVEC on the ViewStations. For the first time ever, Polycom introduces AUDIO ERROR CONCEALMENT! This works very much like video error concealment on IP calls! No longer will you have to worry about words dropping out during a video call! Finally, Polycom has always supported standards based audio and video technology on our products and we continue the same practice with the VSX 7000. Industry1st Industry1st Industry1st
VSX 7000 Ultimate Versatility We’ve talked about the base system, what it includes, and all of the great features delivered right out of the box. Now, let’s discuss the options that can be added to the product that will allow you to configure the VSX to suit the special needs of your environment. Powerful Options
Network Modules Network interface versatility – Mixed network support Quad-BRI Module VSX 7000 Subwoofer with Quad-BRI The VSX comes IP ready, but the user can add ISDN capabilities if necessary. Following are (2) options that are available: Optional Quad BRI (Basic Rate Interface) Optional Serial Module (V.35/RS-530/RS-449 with RS-366 dialing) The subwoofer is designed so that the network interface modules will slide into the empty bay, compact and out-of-the-way. The unit plugs in and, once the screws are securely tightened, the user connects the ISDN cables. From the UI, there are a few configurations to enter (phone numbers, whether to allow for mixed calls, default speeds for dialing ISDN calls, etc.). Note that the power supply is also integrated into the subwoofer, so the system is compact, with no external bricks to worry about! It’s clean and easy! Serial/V.35 Module Network interface versatility – Mixed network support
Polycom People+Content Show high resolution content simultaneously with high quality video People video on one monitor Content on high resolution XGA display Show PowerPoint slides, motion video and audio, or any application Both images are active at the same time No special settings or software configurations needed! Plug and Play! The People+Content technology implemented on the VSX is the SAME People+Content that is implemented with ViewStation 5.0, iPower 5.0 and MGC 5.0! It’s all seamlessly interoperable! People+Content allows the user to introduce graphics to the video call while maintaining simultaneous people video. The user simply connects either a PC or Macintosh laptop via a VGA cable and shows graphics at resolutions up to 1024 x 768! There are no setup configurations and no extra calls to make! Just connect the cable and push the “Play” button on the pod. There’s also a special “Graphics” button on the remote control that “Stops” and “Plays” the graphics, making presenting even easier! The Visual Concert VSX is similar to the Visual Concert FX in functionality, but it is cabled slightly different. The user will still connect using the VGA cable and press the “Play” button to send XGA graphics. The difference, however, is that it is daisy chained on the conference link cable from the VSX. This means that it is connected in a single line with the microphones. The VSX 7000 supports up to (3) “widgets” from the codec. This means that the user can connect up to (3) microphones, or (2) microphones and a Visual Concert VSX. Remember that the Visual Concert VSX can be used either in a call, or out of a call for in-room meetings. Face-to-face meetings enhanced with high-quality content
Additional Microphone Kit Digital Table-Top Microphone Array 360o voice pick-up Flotation feet reduce transmission of table-top noise Mute button Can be mounted to ceiling or walls Link up to (3) microphones at once The microphone array for the VSX 7000 is newly designed to support Siren 14 audio. The new board incorporates (3) cardiod elements per microphone and has 360 degree voice pick-up. The omni directional microphone focuses on the speaker, not on rustling papers or other peripheral noises. When used as a tabletop microphone, the flotation feet on the bottom raise the microphone slightly off the table so that ambient noise such as finger tapping or pen tapping noises on the table are filtered and not carried through the far end. This tabletop microphone has a mute button (similar to the ViewStation microphones) and can be mounted on the ceiling or walls, depending on the environment. The systems ships with a single microphone and a (30) foot cable. Remember, though, that the user can order additional microphone kits (includes a single microphone and a (10) foot cable) for a total of (3) microphones! The maximum distance that the (3) widgets can be extended is (110) feet. Cables are available in lengths of (50), (30) and (10) feet. Note that the new VSX microphone array is not interchangeable with the ViewStation mic pods. The cabling is different and the connectors are keyed differently so there can be no mistake about plugging in the wrong microphone. Intelligent microphone focuses on speaker, not on background noise
Integrated Multipoint Software VSX 7000 – Participant #1 iPower 9800 – Participant #2 Mixed protocol dialing – IP/ISDN/Serial Connect up to four endpoints – video systems or IP phones Dial-in/Dial-out Calling Password protect incoming calls Automatic IP/ISDN downspeeding Supports People+Content from any endpoint (not just the host site) Dial out IP Dial out IP If occasional multipoint capability is a requirement, the VSX has an optional Multipoint Software License. This license will enable the user to participate in a four way multipoint call using internal MCU capabilities. These four calls can be a mix of IP/ISDN or IP/Serial protocols AND with a mix of video endpoints! For example, my VSX 7000 may initiate an IP call to a VSX 7000 and add in an iPower 9800 over IP. The final participant may join the call late and dial in from a ViewStation EX over ISDN. The final participant was given the meeting password and was allowed secure, successful entry into the call. Some advanced features of the multipoint capability include: automatic IP/ISDN downspeeding in the event that one of the endpoints can support only low bandwidth calls Support for People+Content from any endpoint in the multipoint call The ability to install in MP software key while in a call (via the web browser) If your application calls for heavy use of multipoint calls, it is strongly recommended that you consider two alternatives. Broadly deploy VSX 7000 units as the video endpoint and tie them together with an MGC 25 for audio and video bridging capabilities. Consider a ViewStation FX that offers more robust configuration of multipoint calls using and internal MCU. VSX 7000 – Meeting Organizer Dial in ISDN Meet with your entire team – anywhere, anytime, anyway ViewStation EX – Participant #3
Integrated AES* Support Supported on IP & Serial/V.35 up to 2Mbps Supported on ISDN up to 512kbps Supported in People+Content Supported in Point-to-Point IP and ISDN calls Standards based National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) approved Polycom introduces yet another means of secure video communications. To date, all of our video products have provided support for external encryption devices, the most common type of security for federal installations, as well as embedded software options such as administrator and meeting passwords, disabling remote access and disabling mixed protocol dialing. Now, Polycom introduces yet another way to secure your video call. Secure video communications * AES: Advanced Encryption Standard
Additional Display Adapter Kit Add an additional display Ideal for People+Content Viewing Connectivity for your choice of display NTSC/PAL Monitor (composite or S-Video) XGA Graphics Display or Projector Keep in mind that the VSX 7000 is an entry level product and, as such, supports a single monitor display. If, however, there is a requirement for an additional display, this can be accomplished with the Additional Display Adapter Kit. The kit contains a cable extender with an S-Video connector, a composite connector and an XGA connector all built into one end of the cable. The user has the option to connect any one of the three flavors of connectors at a time. An installation guide is included with the kit. Once the kit is installed, the user will then configure the second monitor in the user interface. The second monitor can be set up to display People video or strictly Content. Remember that the Visual Concert VSX has a VGA out port so that a high resolution display device can be connected. This eliminates the need to add a second display using the adapter kit to the codec. The system is flexible and designed to fit the user’s environment. Instead of dictating a single configuration, we give you alternatives! Flexible video conferencing for any space, any environment
Enhanced Remote Control (ideal for bi-lingual settings) Translations! Chinese (Simplified) Chinese (Traditional) English French German Italian Japanese Korean Norwegian Portuguese Spanish New Buttons! Directory Home Back Camera Preset Dot Delete Keyboard Graphics PIP Industry1st With the VSX, Polycom introduces an Advanced Remote Control. We didn’t take any buttons away from the original ViewStation remote, instead, we’ve added some key “hot buttons”. Over time, customers have suggested ways to improve the remote control and we’ve listened. For the most commonly used functions (dot for IP address entry, Home to return immediately to the main screen, camera to bring up alternative video sources, Directory to bring up the Global Address Directory), we’ve added a button, right on the remote! With the older style remote control, you had to know to press “Near” twice to bring up the camera icons. You had to know to press the right arrow button to put a dot in IP addresses. You had to know to press the center “Select” button to bring up camera presets. Now all of the mystery is gone and the buttons are easily readable and accessible. Buttons related to similar functions are colored alike and grouped together. For example, all of the camera control buttons are blue and grouped in relative proximity. Volume buttons are orange and grouped together. The green buttons relate to call functionality (call, hang up, directory) and are side-by-side. For easier recognition, all of the buttons have a symbol or number imprinted right on the button! No more guessing! For the first time ever, Polycom has translated the remote controls into (11) different languages! No other manufacturer offers this! Polycom understands that users in various geographic regions want to drive their user interface in their native language AND have a remote control that matches! One final important note: The Advanced Remote Control with the VSX product can be used with all ViewStations. Conversely, the ViewStation remote control can be used with the VSX! Single click access to commonly used functions – for every geography

VSX 7000 Hot User Interface Now, let’s take a look at some specific examples of the unique interface and how it can be customized.
Kiosk Mode with Scrolling Marquee Ideal for standalone kiosk applications Education, Insurance, Banking, or Medical kiosks Provide on screen instruction for easy dialing and access to representatives via video Well suited for any organization Preset dial buttons for specific call locations For maximum ease-of-use, the video administrator can set-up a scrolling message for the user to “pick up the remote and dial a site”. Below the scrolling message can be several pre-defined dialing sites. For example, a list of (4) corporate locations may be listed as buttons on the “Place a Call” screen. Each location has an associated number and name label. The only required action on the part of the end user is to pick up the remote control and press the corresponding number of the site to call (i.e. “2”). This will immediately place the call at the predefined call speed, number and protocol. All of the decision making and work was lifted from the user. How easy can that be? NOTE: This slide has an attached “marquee4.wmv” file that must reside in the same folder as the PowerPoint presentation. When you click on the Polycom logo, the video clip will begin. Simple enough for any user, ultimate video administrator control
ViewStation Classic Home Page VSX 7000 Also supported is the ViewStation Classic home page. This enables users to smoothly transition to the enhanced VSX user interface.

New Web Interface Full control, from any web browser Integrated web interface for remote management Out-of-box setup from web interface Place a call from web interface Language independence between set-top interface and web interface System configuration from web interface The Web Interface is newly designed to give even more control to IT and Video Administrators. The menu structure mirrors that of the system. It’s as if you are standing in front of the unit with a remote control, navigating through the same menu selections! The Web interface allows an administrator with authorization to conduct an out-of-box setup, place calls, download the CDR (Call Detail Record) and even manage a system remotely, using a different language interface! For example, from my system in Austin, Texas, I can dial into the VSX in our demo facility in Mexico City (configured in Spanish) and run diagnostics and download the CDR, all in English! I can then dial into the VSX in our sales facility in Munich (configured in German) and reconfigure the monitor setup, all in English! You get the idea. Full control, from any web browser
