“How does Green Technology affect society as a whole?” Making products environmentally friendly The Government using benefits to promote green tech The education required to work in a green tech field The future of green technology

Apple They used fewer materials to make their products, Less wood, plastic glass, etc In 1998 IMac weighted 18kg and in 2009 its weight was 8 kg

Apple knows how to be green Apple is using fewer resources from the environment The careful environmental management of their products throughout their life cycles includes: o controlling the quantity and type of materials used in their manufacture, o improving their energy efficiency, and designing them for better recyclability Most of Apple’s corporate greenhouse gas emissions come from the production, transport, use, and recycling of its products

Starbucks Starbucks offered everyone to switch from paper cups to reusable mugs: o Save on paper cups Use Green Tech to make green stores use less resources new construction technology Use less energy. Use new coffee machines and refrigerators that don’t use a lot of energy

Safe water practices Starbucks continue to purchase renewable energy that represents 20% of the total electricity used in our company-operated stores in the U.S. and Canada Uses safe water Safe water Water use decreased by 4.1% in company-owned stores in 2009

Wal-Mart Light bulbs that uses less energy Those bulbs use up to 75% less electricity than incandescent bulbs The company launched a pilot program to cut emissions in certain categories As a result of this program, DVD suppliers eliminated more than 28,000 metric tons of GHG in 2009

Wal-mart GHG programs Another program aimed at eliminating GHG from the company’s supply chain is Wal-Mart’s Supplier Energy Efficiency Project: o in which the retailer oversees energy audits and retrofits of supplier’s factories Wal-Mart is selling Green Tech so others can help environment.

Future of Green Technology Green Tech is a big issue and there are companies that are constantly looking to the future for the next big idea. Companies are pouring millions in to green tech to help in research for future projects

Companies interest Companies becoming more interested as consumers become more interested in green products o This forces businesses to change the way businesses make and sell products people don’t want products that aren’t energy efficient or good to the environment o Example: the Hummer it was a gas guzzler so people didn’t buy it so it was discontinued.

Automotive industry Is always looking into the future with hybrids and alternative fuel Electric cars and hybrids to reduce gas cost and mileage They also want to help the environment by lowering the emission rates of cars and lower the amount of gas produced

Housing Industry People want to buy houses that are going green Forcing sellers to add things such as solar panels to the home to sell it better Government gives out tax reductions for people how have things like these in their homes This is also forcing new home builders to take into consideration these practices
