India Fair Trade is one of the most representative social movements with economic and social empowerment at its core

WFTO’s vision: A SUSTAINABLE AND FAIR ECONOMY The World Fair Trade Organization has a vision of a world in which trade structures and practices have been transformed to work in favour of small producers and promote sustainable development and justice.

MISSION WFTO’s mission is to enable small producers to improve their livelihoods and communities through Fair Trade. WFTO is the global network and advocate for Fair Trade, ensuring produces’ voices are heard. The interest of producers, especially small farmers and artisans, is the main focus in all the policies, governance, structures and decision making within the WFTO.

FAIR TRADE Fair Trade is a trading partnership with small producers based on equity, transparency and fair trade terms which allow for sustainable production, decent work and living wages. Fair Trade is value based production and trade (environmental, social and economic sustainability). Fair Trade provides market access in favourable and fair conditions Fair Trade seeks to transform trading structures and practices in favour of small producers. Fair Trade is a powerful contribution to poverty reduction Through Fair Trade small producers take more control over their lives. FAIR TRADE is about economic and social empowerment of small producers. WFTO.COM

CHALLENGES - Global crisis: economic, food and climate change - NO FUTURE? UN MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS (MDG) Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger T2: full and productive employment and decent work for all. Goal 2: Promote gender equality and empower women T1: capacity building, employment, active participation Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability T 1: sustainable development programmes, community services, etc. Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development T2: open, rule-based, predictable & equitable trading system: - NO PROFESSIONAL PERSPECTIVE, NO EMPLOYMENT? - NO PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE, NO VALUES? A generation without values? FAIR TRADE VOLUNTEER MOVEMENT

World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO)  Membership organization. 454 member organizations in 72 countries (2/3 in the South).  Regional networks: WFTO Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, North America/Pacific  Democratic governance structure: inclusive, democratic (member/vote), bottom-up. Geographic and gender balance. Small producers are not the stakeholders but the owners and protagonists
