Intercultural Development Agency (IDA)2 VISION A Poverty Free Teso Region Rural Community MISSION To conserve and exploit the local natural and cultural resources towards sustainable development by promoting community based tourism in Teso region.

Intercultural Development Agency (IDA)3 MAIN OBJECTIVE “To promote, lobby and advocate for Education, Research and Rural Development activities to support and assist Teso region communities improve their livelihoods”. Visitors Targeted: Eco-tourists, Agro-tourists, Vacationers, Adventurers, Volunteers, Interns/students, Scientists, Researchers Types of sites available include:- Religious/spiritual, ceremonial (Occasional), Colonial/historical, Archaeological, Natural/wild life, Domestic/Residential and others

Intercultural Development Agency (IDA)4 Proposed Tourist Activities in Kumi District Rock climbing, swamp walks, fishing & boating, volunteer placements, science & research (individual studies), village walks, Nature tours, Bird viewing etc Additional package outside Kumi District :- Visit to the Uganda Wild-life Education Centre (Zoo), Boating on Lake Victoria & Source of the River Nile, visit to the Uganda Museum, Rafting at the River Nile, Hiking expeditions at Mt. Elgon,visit to the beautiful hills of Kapchorwa and others as demanded.

Intercultural Development Agency (IDA)5 Specific Targets A feasibility study conducted before August 2008 The project defined before August 2008 At least 50 tourists visit the community in one year beginning August At least 50 rural poor youth and their households benefit from the project as expected in two years beginning from August At least 10 new partnerships (Local and International) with persons, groups, organizations, institutions and networks sharing the same cause initiated in two years beginning from August At least 5 new community development initiatives created and sustained within three years beginning January How is the community (including the leaders) involved:- Community mobilization sensitization, Assisting in coordinating the project, through groups participate in Music, Dance, Drama, Art & Craft, and other cultural and traditional presentations/performances; Tourist hosting (Family hosts); Guiding; Volunteer/intern placements; Monitoring and Evaluation

Intercultural Development Agency (IDA)6 EXPECTATIONS Create jobs and increase/improve income earnings Capacity building through Skills Training (Education); and Information documentation, dissemination/sharing and exchange. Sustainability of youth initiatives/self help projects towards development. Sustainable exploitation of local natural and cultural resources towards environment preservation and conservation; and cultural identity & preservation. Services required/Offered include;- Tour operators, Conservation Professionals, Field Guides, Researchers, Scientists, Information Services, MDD Performances, Craft Spots/Centres, Host Families, Budget Tours and Travel, Hotel Bookings, Car Renting/Hire etc Thank You!
