Japan Postcards By Laura and Cynthia.

Geisha’s Meaning of げいしゃ: The word げいしゃ is derived from ‘Gei’, which in Japanese means performance or entertainer, and ‘sha’, which means person, and dates back 400 years ago to the 'Edo' period.   まけうp-Makeup: It is long and tiresome process to apply the まけうp. Naturally there are special professionals to do this. This usually happens after the geisha is dressed up to kimono. The traditional white base まけうp was originally made with harmful lead or rice powder. The red lipstick and red and black accents around the eyes and eyebrows are typical geisha まけうp. Theまけうp process begins with application of bintsuke-abura, a special kind of oil. Next the white powder like substance is mixed with water and applied to the skin with a special bamboo brush. The white substance covers almost all visible part of the skin, including chest and neck. The nape of the neck has the typical W or V shape of clear skin which has no white makeup. This is especially important part, as the neck is the crucial point of げいしゃ‘s presence.

Geisha Postcard Hey Cynthia, I was walking down the street of where I am staying, and I saw 3 ladies wearing Geisha. It was pretty amazing and I think you would really love them if you got to see what they look like. Hope to speak soon Laura.

Transport There are a lot of funny looking transports in Japan/ときょ. Japans/ときょ’s trains are very different to ours, and there look like a plane. In Japan/ときょ they have a mini car but it isn’t an everyday car, it is only used for special occasions. There planes aren’t that different to our planes in あうstらぃあ. Their buses are like ours too but theirs are very colourful and not hard to see =].

Thanks for your Letter Cynthia.
