Meet The Teachers! Mrs. Garrahan, M.Ed. - Autistic Support Teacher Ms. McCloud, B.S. Ed.- Instructional Aide (Certified Teacher)

Homework… Homework varies depending on each child and grade level. Homework is given Monday-Thursday Spelling 4 days a week Reading log 4 days a week (Parent signature required) Math 3-4 x a week Social Studies/science- as needed

Reading Each child is assessed and placed in a reading program that best fits his/her unique learning needs Programs 1.Rigby Literacy By Design- General Education, Balanced Literary Curriculum 2.Rigby LBD, Guided Reading- Students are benchmarked several times a year and are grouped at instructional level. 3.Read 180- small group & computer lessons- A balanced literacy program focused on improving reading comprehension. 4.Reading Mastery- a direct instruction reading program to help students with both decoding and comprehension needs.

Writing *Graphic organizers used to help organize thoughts & ideas *Kid writing- for emerging writers Genres: –Journaling" Four Square” paragraph writing –Personal narratives –Compare & contrast –Persuasive writing –Letter writing –Procedural writing –Creative writing (Students are instructed at his/her own level)

Handwriting *It is important for each student to have an adequate written form of communication. *Each student is encouraged to write as neatly as possible with appropriate spacing. * The students will be exposed to cursive handwriting including a concentration on signature writing.

Math Programs *Everyday Math- used in general education classes *Supplemental program *Touch Math- to help students who struggle with basic addition & subtraction facts. Math in AS Classroom: small group setting slower paced instruction modified curriculum & assessments visual aides & manipulatives used

Progress Monitoring Reading and math Goals will be monitored weekly or biweekly depending on each student’s individual goals. Reading fluency & comprehension- Aims Web Probes Math Goals- Study Island grade level probes based on PA Standards Writing- Assessed using District writing goal when a writing piece is complete.

Classroom Management Classroom Rules Noise Levels 1-5 Filling Buckets- When students fill someone’s “Happiness Bucket” they get to add a marble in the class jar. When the jar is filled the class votes on a reward (example movie & popcorn party) Color Cards- Each student begins each day with a green card. If a student exhibits unexpected behaviors he/she will change his/her color to yellow. If the unexpected behavior persists the color will change to a red and parent will be notified. Baseball Field & P.A.T- Each day that the students end the day with a green card they earn 4 min. of P.A.T (Preferred Activity Time) By Friday each child can earn up to 16 min. of P.A.T Parent communication

OTHER Water Bottles with safety caps permitted Healthy snacks / lunches encouraged. Remember to send notes to excuse student absences and when altering the daily routine.
