OHIO GRADUATION TEST A Pre-test For English 9

Part One: Responding to Writing Prompts On the OGT test you will be given writing prompts to which you will be required to respond. You will be given an area to do some pre-writing before you begin drafting your response.

Your pre-writing is an important part of the process and should be completed. However, your prewriting will not be scored. The draft that you want scored needs to be legible—it may be printed or in cursive handwriting. Revise and edit your writing—erasing, and other changes may be made right on your answer sheet.

We are ready to begin! You will need several sheets of notebook paper You will need a pen or pencil You will need to read the writing prompts very carefully and You must respond to them specifically

Writing Topic # 1 Recently your local newspaper published an article about the benefits of high school activities. The article claimed that music is not on the same level as other activities such as football, soccer and basketball because music is not competitive, it’s artistic. Do you agree or disagree?

Read these directions carefully: Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper, explaining your point of view. Use appropriate facts, opinions, and details to develop your letter.

Writing Prompt # 2 Write a story about a narrow escape from trouble. The events may be real or imagined. Tell what the trouble was, who (or what creature) escaped it, and how. Develop your story with details.

Part Two and Part Three Part two of the OGT is a multiple choice test that asks you to revise and writing sample. Part Three of the OGT asks you to respond to a short answer question. These two tests will be taken at a later date.
