Managing Files for Personal Computing Part 2 – File Management

Aims… …to set up and maintain an effective data storage system

Objectives… to select appropriate storage media to create folders to move and copy files to delete files and folders to retrieve files from the recycle bin to create a back up of the data

In part 1 we learnt about some common file types: click the mouse or press the space bar to continue

Microsoft Office Applications File sizes are more often measured in megabytes click the mouse or press the space bar to continue …and investigated how large, in memory terms, these files could be

Picture or Image files can range from a few hundred kilobytes to several megabytes click the mouse or press the space bar to continue

Music and Video file sizes vary, depending on which program has been used to create them, but can range from 3 – 5 megabytes for a Music file in.mp3 format to around 4 Gigabytes for a full length feature film click the mouse or press the space bar to continue

Backing up data… This is one of the most important, yet also one of the most neglected areas of computing. Backing up your data should be at the top of your computer maintenance list. Without data backup, you are running the risk of losing your data.
