Using Music In The Classroom Why use Music? Choosing the right style. When to use music. Pros and Cons.

Why Use Music? "Almost all children respond to music. Music is an open-sesame, and if you can use it carefully and appropriately, you can reach into that child's potential for development." Dr. Clive Robbins (Music Therapist)

What Music Does… Can be used as a positive behaviour management tool. Aids students to remain focused during a writing activity. Allows a smooth transition between subjects. Creates a positive atmosphere within the classroom. Can be used as a memorisation tool. Builds a stronger bond between yourself and the students. Choose your Music Wisely. Never play the music too loudly. Avoid music with lyrics.

Arguments For And Against Using Music In Class For Effective classroom management tool. Increases attention levels. Extends focused learning time. Improves retention and memory. Expands thinking skills. Creates a positive atmosphere. Against Music can become a distraction. It can aggitate certain children, especially if they do not the style you are playing! Some children work better without music. Choosing the right type of music can lead to arguments within the class.

To Use Music Or Not? Using music has many benifits towards improving students learning. Choose your music wisely! Each Class will receive music differently. Respect each child’s opinion.
