Laney College STUDENT SUCCESS AND SUPPORT PROGRAM

SSSP Philosophy Provide new students core services, prior to their enrollment in classes to ensure they receive a comprehensive orientation including college success strategies, course of study and career goal development and student to student engagement 2

Data - Core Services (as of September 2014)  ASSESSMENT  5,390 new student English and Math assessments  939 new student ESL assessments  ORIENTATION  30 sections of Counseling 200A  COUNSELING  3,702 Individual student appointments  11,267 Drop-in appointments  2,468 SEP appointments 3

Plan for Core Services ASSESSMENT:  To administer placement assessments at feeder high schools  To increase staffing in the Assessment Center  To establish additional partners for providing placement assessment in the future ORIENTATION:  To continue to assess orientation formats and use technology to support all core services COUNSELING:  SSSP Committee will continue to develop and implement a process to contact and support students who do not complete the orientation course and do not have an abbreviated SEP  Coordinator and Counseling Department will develop and implement processes for students who need a Comprehensive SEP. 4

SSSP Staffing Plan Hire SSSP staffing with the goal of restoring and enhancing staff and faculty:  SSSP Counselor/Coordinator (50/50) 1.0 FTE  Veterans SSSP Counselor/Coordinator (75/25) 1.0 FTE  SSSP Counselor 2.0 FTE  SSSP Early Alert Counselor/Coordinator (50/50) 1.0 FTE  High School Transition Counselor 0.5 FTE  High School Transition Team Specialist 1.0 FTE  SSSP Network Support Specialist 1.0 FTE  Admission & Records Degree Evaluator 2.0 FTE  Additional hourly classified Assessment staff 5
