Its History “Sultanahmet Mosque” is better known as the “Blue Mosque” Sultan Ahmet I,who was 19 yrs old at the time, commissioned the Blue Mosque to be built. – He was so anxious for it to be finished that even he helped. – Construction began 1609 and it took seven years to complete. – Sadly Sultan Ahmet I died a year after it was completed. – It was named after him.

The Architect Sedefkar Mehmet Ağa  Sedefkar Mehmet Aga was the architect hired by Sultan Ahmet I to construct the Blue Mosque.  The site where the Blue Mosque was on the “palace of the Byzantine Emperors” facing Hagia Sophia and the Hippodrome.  It is shown on the back of the Turkish 500 lira from  The style was Islamic and Late Classical Ottoman Hagia Sophia Hippodrome

The Math Because of its domes and arcs, you use formulas to solve for them For the decorations, you have to subtract the area of the domes and arcs from the whole area

Ahead of its time In my opinion, it wasn’t because its considered the last of the classicals. – It could be though because of the pillars that it has in the inside.
