What kinds of Accreditation? 1. Via programmes and routes 112 programmes leading to ILT membership have been accredited with more in the pipeline for next year; Agreements have been reached to recognise accreditations by other bodies including SEDA, UKCC for Nursing Midwifery and Health Visiting and CCETSW (for Social workers who teach in HE)

Accreditation developments Accreditation arrangement also reached with British Psychological Society (re their Dip in Applied Psychology) Agreement reached with the General Teaching Council (E) re recognition for teacher educators and at an advanced stage for Scotland and Wales A number of routes leading to Associate membership have been recognised

2. Accreditation that recognises individual experience and expertise More than 11,500 applications for membership have been received by the ILT More than10,000 applicants have been accepted to date; Old and new universities equally represented; Some institutions have 40% + members Applications for Associate membership are also being received.

3.What kinds of Membership services? ILT conferences in 2000 and 2001 oversubscribed, bookings half full for ILTAC 2002 in June Five issues of journal published to date, sixth in production, over 130 articles received for consideration, now 3 issues per year; Newsletters published 3 times a year

More membership Services First book in Kogan Page Effective Learning in….. series published (Business and Management), three more at press (Law, Maths and Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science; Members’ resource area of the website publishes new material fortnightly (has published 40+ items so far) 16 small grants to make a difference awarded

Developing members’ forums (for details see website) Eleven regional members forums held for each region of the UK between September and December 2001 and 15+ planned so far in 2002 Further members’ forums planned or held on Virtual Learning environments, for Learning Support staff and Librarians and for those interested in Disability issues Members’ forums are low cost or no cost events for members and applicants: see website for details

Moving towards direction of policy by the membership Both Members and Associates stood for election at the Council elections in December 2001 ILT members are now in the majority on the ILT governing Council; Members are represented on all working parties, sub-committees and active groups within the ILT.

The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme For England and Northern Ireland only; The biggest awards for teaching in the world, we believe; 20 awards of £50,000 each year doe three years The growth of a group of at least 60 Fellowship holders who are impacting on the HE community

How the scheme works A two stage process: the nomination/submission and the plan for expenditure A panel of 24 judges the submissions against the criteria (on the website) Criteria for excellence in teaching supplemented by a list of behaviours and attributes
