Who, What, When, Where, and Why I want you to describe an activity that occurred yesterday by answering each of these questions. Mr. Yancey will show you the cadence and will give you an example

Map Activity Label the following on the map on page 15 of IN (pages 20 and 59 in book will really help) Fall Line Barrier Islands Okefenokee Swamp Savannah river Chattahoochee River Atlantic Ocean Construct a map key ( Colors and symbols must represent what is on the map.)

What and where is the Fall Line? Found on the border between Piedmont and coastal plains Separates the hilly piedmont region and the very flat coastal plain

What and where is the Fall Line? On the fall line there are many waterfalls that made some rivers hard to navigate Cities like Macon, Augusta, and Columbus are found on the line

What and where are the APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS? Located in the northern three regions of Georgia (Appalachian Plateau, Ridge & Valley, and Blue Ridge Mountains) Are the oldest mountains in North America

What and where are the APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS? Receives the most precipitation in the state due to higher elevations Starting point of many of Georgia’s rivers Site of famous Appalachian Trail

What and where is the OKEFENOKEE SWAMP? Covers 700 square miles and is the largest Freshwater swamp in North America Found in Southeast Georgia

What and where is the OKEFENOKEE SWAMP? Native Americans have been here since the Archaic Period White people showed up in 1808 and settled area The swamp was originally used for timber until FDR set up a wildlife reserve here

What and where is the CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER? Forms a boundary line between Georgia and Alabama Starts in the Blue Ridge region and flows into the Gulf of Mexico

What and where is the CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER? Water is used for farming, business, and drinking supply

What and where is the SAVANNAH RIVER? Forms a boundary between Georgia and South Carolina Starts in the Appalachian Mtns and flows into the Atlantic Ocean

What and where is the SAVANNAH RIVER? Generates hydroelectric power Navigable for shipping

What and where are the BARRIER ISLANDS? Site of Jekyll, Cumberland, Tybee, St. Simons, and many other islands Freshwater rivers meet the salt water of the ocean at estuaries

What and where are the BARRIER ISLANDS? Saltwater wetlands along coast are vital to the food chain Provide protection from storms & waves

What’s up with GA Climate? Classified as Humid Subtropical Warm and Wet Climate, Cold in the mountains 45 to 75 inches of rain a year on average These factors combine to make Georgia a very agricultural state

You are the Cartographer I want you to draw a map of Georgia (600’s of the book) Put the following location/features on it ◦Appalachian Plateau ◦Ridge and Valley ◦Blue Ridge ◦Piedmont ◦Coastal Plain ◦Fall line ◦Okefenokee Swamp ◦Chattahoochee River ◦Savannah River ◦Atlantic Ocean ◦Barrier Islands ◦Appalachian Mountains Make a Legend and key

Puzzling students I want you to come up with ten words that describe you. I don’t want these to be lazy descriptions (don’t put something lame like nice and fun). Spread them around the Friday section and draw puzzle pieces around them

Class Map We will finish breaking down important physical features of Georgia Discuss Georgian Climate We will try an activity where you are the Cartographer
