A GENDA Welcome & Introduction Washington’s CEDS Efforts CEDS as Data Governance Tool CEDS Tools Break CEDS Speed Session

S HARING I NFORMATION ON CEDS CEDS is a regular agenda item for our Data Management Committee and Data Governance Group. – Use slide decks and information from CEDS website. – Collaborative effort with IT. – Agency Enterprise Architect is a partner in this effort.

CEDS P20 W ORKSHOP CEDS Workshop March 2012 – Partner with Education Research and Data Center – Goals of the workshop – cover information on CEDS from the beginning to current status and come to agreement on steps to move forward – Invited interested stakeholders from across the P20W spectrum including vendors – Outcome - partner organizations committed to mapping source systems for P-20W SLDS

CEDS P OLICY March proposed to the Data Governance Group that they adopted a Policy on CEDS in WA Refined draft language after the EIMAC conference this May in Denver. Data Governance Group adopted in May Awaiting approval by agency cabinet.

E LEMENTS OF CEDS P OLICY OSPI accepts CEDS data definitions, terminology, relationships and code sets Mapping is done at direction of data owners We will do mapping in our EA tool Mapping will be done as resources are available Mapping will be a work product for any projects with data systems Work that redefines or combines data elements shall attempt to align with CEDS data elements as closely as practicable To the degree practical any new data elements shall be aligned with CEDS. Goal is to move from level 2-3 adoption

L EVEL OF CEDS A DOPTION Level 1 – Acknowledgement & Recognition Level 2 – Agreement and Acceptance Level 3 – Technically Documented Level 4 – Ready to Exchange Level 5 – Operational *Taken from CEDS presentation (

M APPING IN THE A LIGN T OOL Vendor has mapped our SLDS in Excel, we have imported into our EA tool and awaiting ability to load that into the Alignment tool. Current Maps Published – UID Mapping – Directory System State Department of Early Learning has published a map

D IFFERENCE IN D ATA C ONTEXT W HEN M APPING We have built in context into several of our data fields, but CEDS has not.

D IFFERENCE IN D ATA C ONTEXT W HEN M APPING Consequences – We need to be creative when mapping our data to CEDS. – We need to set standards for how to map to CEDS (i.e. which elements between the two models to map and which alignment options to select in the CEDS Alignment tool) – Always enter comments. They help the reader understand any differences between the two models.

L OOKING F ORWARD Implement the policy we have adopted. Looking to map some of our transactional systems – Grant funding to assist mapping would be great. Future Maps – ESD – Head Start and ECAP system programs – Foster Care Data Looking forward to EDFacts as part of the connect tool.

Data governance is both an organizational process and a structure. It establishes responsibility for data, organizing program area staff to collaboratively and continuously improve data quality through the systematic creation and enforcement of policies, roles, responsibilities, and procedures. *taken from K12 Data Governance for Leadership presentation, State Support Team
