March of Dimes

What is it? O The leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. O Founded in 1938 O By Franklin D. Roosevelt O It was originally known as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. O The mission is "To improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality."

What can you do to help? O Make and sell baby blankets and give the money to March of Dimes. O Sell paper baby bottles to students, teachers, and staff at your school and put them up around your school. O Have a table with information about March of Dimes and ask for donations. O For more information:

Students Team Up to Fight Hunger (STUFH)

What is it? O Began in 1999 O At Cornell University O Dedicated to linking food banks with local colleges and universities for two purposes: O To collect food for those who need it most. O To raise awareness of these needs upon the local student population. O The main focus comes at the end of a school year when students move out of apartments and dorms. O Rather than discarding unopened non-perishable foodstuffs into trash bins as they leave, STUFH supplies food bins for students to donate these unwanted items.

What is it?(cont.) O The mission is to increase this gathering of food at college campuses throughout the country. O Which will link the hearts and souls of college students with their less fortunate hungry neighbors. O Since the program began more than 1 million pounds of foodstuffs have been raised for food banks to feed the hungry.

What can you do to help? O The best way you can help this organization is by donating the food you do not want to take home to STUFH. O For more information:

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)

What is it? O Created after World War II O To provide emergency aid to children in Europe and Asia. O Today, UNICEF works in more than 150 countries and territories, supported entirely with voluntary contributions. O Across the globe UNICEF is there with medicine, vaccines, clean water, and nutrition. O Over the years, UNICEF has saved more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization in the world. O The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF’s mission through education, advocacy, and fundraising in the United States.

What can you do to help? O Participate in Trick or treat for UNICEF. O For more information:
