Introduction  An expanded school health program is a means of improving the health status of American youth.  The younger generation has to be made aware of all the consequences surrounding an inadequate way of life, whether it is personal hygiene, nutrition or physical activity.  Technology is playing a key role in establishing today’s elementary health education program.  Enjoy this one minute video outlining my goals for today’s presentation (hyperlinked). Summary Findings  I reviewed 20 web sites that can assist any elementary health educator in not only lesson and unit planning, but all the other ingredients that make up a coordinated school health program.  Although I will not give a detailed view of all 20 sites, I will provide a link in my Additional Resources to access all these unique sites. Here is one example:  This web site includes health lesson plans, printable worksheets, lessons, and other teaching material and resources. I like the fact that many of the worksheets are ready to print. This web site includes health lesson plans, printable worksheets, lessons, and other teaching material and resources. I like the fact that many of the worksheets are ready to print.

Detailed Findings  I hope you find the following five sites of good value and information.  I have included one site geared towards students, two government sites with unlimited health resources, and two sites with the emphasis on planning and creating a better classroom for the health environment  I truly believe that a first year health teacher could use these five sites and plan his or her entire curriculum for the school year.

1) Kids Health for Kids  Kids Health web site provides students, parents and teachers with accurate, up-to-date health information they can use.  There are literally thousands of in-depth features, articles, animations, games, and resources.  Kids Health is perfect for any type of research the students need to obtain.  The following slide provides a nice sample of information available at Kid’s Health.

Aches, Pains, & Injuries Blisters, Calluses, and Corns Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Cellulitis Checking Out Cuts, Scratches, and Abrasions Concussions Coping With Cold Sores Examples from Kid’s Health (hyperlinked)

2) PE Central  This is the premiere web site for health and physical education teachers.  This is a fantastic site for K-12 health and physical education teachers to visit that would provide them with information and resources to help them deliver developmentally appropriate health and physical education to their students.  The site includes assessments, health and physical education lesson ideas, job announcements, bulletin boards, wellness tips, and instant activities that change on a weekly basis.  I will show how impressive the home page is, followed by some great examples of bulletin boards from the PE Central site.

3) American Heart Association’s Heart Power dentifier= dentifier= dentifier=  The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."  The lesson plans are easy to follow and very age appropriate.  There are many other areas of the American Heart Association’s web site that can be very informative to teachers or parents.  The worksheets on the following lesson are hyperlinked.

4) US Centers for Disease Control  CDC′s mission is "to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability.”  The Centers for Disease Control is a tremendous asset for any health professional.  Not only does it cover everything to know about disease and illness, but topics such as violence, environmental health and safety are prime topics on this web site.  Here’s an example from the CDC Web Site using a scanner (hyperlinked). Here’s an example from the CDC Web Site using a scanner (hyperlinked) Here’s an example from the CDC Web Site using a scanner (hyperlinked)  The following slide, BAM-Body and Mind, is hyperlinked.

5) Lesson Plans Page  The Lesson Plans Page is a collection of over 3,000 lesson plans from Preschool through High School and beyond.  Elementary Health teachers get lesson plans that are ready to use in their classrooms.  Elementary Health teachers get lesson plans that are ready to use in their classrooms.  Lesson plans are always getting updated.  One can participate in discussions with other educators in their Teacher Discussion Forums.

Conclusions  In our school system today, health related awareness goes beyond the classroom.  These are my thoughts via audio that illustrate how important technology can be in establishing solid core values in our children through health education (hyperlinked).
