Presentation transcript:

Frank Colclough Frank Colclough was born in Wick, Caithness in Scotland. He lived in London before settling in Scotland in 1975. He originally worked as a design draughtsman while studying art at Camberwell Art School and he has worked as a professional artist since 1981.

Frank Colclough Acrylic paints (plastic based paints), or oil paints are used in Frank Colclough’s work. The inspiration for Frank Colclough paintings comes from his interest in the Scottish Colourist movement and the paintings of Samuel Peploe and Cadell. This is reflected in his paintings which now consist mainly of: Marine views of the Scottish West Coast and colourful still life studies.

Frank Colclough He makes use of vivid Primary and Secondary colours in his still lifes. He uses thick (impasto) paint, flat areas of colour, tones of the same colour, patterns and a strong light source. Many of his still life paintings are based around the reflective qualities of glass, and metal. Flowers, fruits, bowls, cups and glassware are often chosen subject matter. His compositions are often simple, and rely on shape, colour and tone.

Frank Colclough Today Frank Colclough contemporary paintings appear in many private and public art collections. The RSW, RGI and RSA have also exhibited his contemporary paintings. In addition to Red Rag Scottish Art Gallery and Arran Art Gallery, Frank Colclough art work has been exhibited at many other leading Scottish Art Galleries. His paintings are also regularly auctioned at McTears Auction house, Glasgow.
