Views and Viewports2 Setting View Resolution For Quick Displays Chapter 9 – Page 364

Views and Viewports3 View Resolution u AutoCAD u Can save time in zooming and panning at the expense of display accuracy. u Can provide a highly accurate display at the expense of zoom and pan speed. u The main factor is the view resolution.

Views and Viewports4 View Resolution u The view resolution is the number of lines used to draw circles and arcs. u High resolution values display smooth circles and arcs. u Low resolution values display segmented circles and arcs.

Views and Viewports5 View Resolution u Set view resolution by: u Options dialog box from the Tools Menu.

Views and Viewports6

7

8 View Resolution u The variable VIEWRES u Controls the display smoothness of circles and arcs. u It can vary between 1 and u Default setting is 100. Produces a relatively smooth curve. u A number < 100 causes circles to appear more “jagged”. u A number > 100 causes circles to appear smoother.

Views and Viewports9

10

Views and Viewports11 Setting View Resolution u AutoCAD trades view resolution for panning and zooming speed. u The View Resolution refers to the number of lines used to draw circles and arcs.

Views and Viewports12 Setting View Resolution u Command Sequence: u VIEWRES: u Do you want fast zooms? u Enter circle zoom percent ( ) : u A number smaller than 100 causes more lines to be used to draw circles and arcs.

Views and Viewports13 Setting View Resolution u If speed is a concern, respond with Yes, and AutoCAD uses fast zooms. u AutoCAD performs a REDRAW only when zooming and does not perform a REGEN. u If speed is not a concern, respond with No. u A REGEN will be performed each time.

Views and Viewports14 Creating Your Own Working Views Chapter 9– Page 204

Views and Viewports15 Views and Viewports u Zooming and panning can be time consuming. u Being able to quickly specify and recall a certain part of the drawing is much easier than zooming or panning.

Views and Viewports16 Creating Views u VIEW command allows you to create named views which can then quickly be recalled. u A view can be any portion of the drawing.

Views and Viewports17 Creating Views u Think of a view as a previously zoomed display that you can recall at any time. u Benefits u Magnification is the “right size”. u Text is legible.

Views and Viewports18 Creating Views u Access VIEWS by: u Picking Named Views button in the Viewpoint toolbar. u Select Named Views from the View pull-down menu. u Enter DDVIEW or V at the Command: prompt.

Views and Viewports19 Creating Views u The Named Views tab is where new views are defined. u The Orthographic and Isometric Views tab provides preset views around the drawing in AutoCAD.

Views and Viewports20

Views and Viewports21

Views and Viewports22 Creating Views u A list of currently defined views is shown in the Named Views tab.

Views and Viewports36 The Aerial View Chapter 9 – Page 370

Views and Viewports37 The Aerial View u When you work on a large drawing, you can spend a lot of time zooming and panning. u Aerial View is a navigation tool that lets you see the entire drawing in a separate window.

Views and Viewports38

Views and Viewports39 Using the Aerial View u To open the Aerial View u Pick Aerial View from the View pull-down menu u OR u Enter AV or DSVIEWER at the Command: prompt.

Views and Viewports40 Using the Aerial View u The Aerial view window initially appears at the lower-right of the graphics window. u It can be moved to any location on the screen. u Drag window with the title bar.

Views and Viewports41

Views and Viewports42 Using the Aerial View u The menu bar in the Aerial view contains three pull-down menus and three buttons. u Zoom In u Zoom Out u Global

Views and Viewports43 Using the Aerial View u Zoom In u Increases image magnification u Zoom Out u Decreases image magnification u Global u Displays the entire drawing area (zoom extents) in the Aerial View window.

Views and Viewports45

Views and Viewports46

Views and Viewports47 Using the Aerial View u The Options pull-down menu contains: u Auto Viewport u Dynamic Update u Real-time Zoom u Aerial View Help

Views and Viewports48

Views and Viewports49 Using the Aerial View u Auto Viewport u Two settings: ON and OFF u When ON, switching to a different tiled viewport causes the new viewport to be displayed in the Aerial View window. u When OFF, the Aerial View window is not updated.

Views and Viewports50 Using the Aerial View u Dynamic Update u Causes the Aerial View window to update after each change in the drawing. u Use only with “fast” computers. u Real-time Zoom u Updates the drawing view as you Zoom and Pan in the Aerial View window. u Aerial View Help u Opens help.

Views and Viewports51

Views and Viewports52 Using the Aerial View u Aerial View window is similar to the Zoom Dynamic command. u Right-click in Aerial View window to see short-cut menu.

Views and Viewports53

Views and Viewports54 Tiled Viewports Chapter 9 – Page 374

Views and Viewports55 Viewports u The AutoCAD Model tab screen may be divided into several “windows” called viewports. u Each viewport may display a different view or zoom of the current drawing.

Views and Viewports56 Viewports u Another type of viewport called “floating viewports” can be created in the Layout tab. u Tiled viewports - model space u Floating viewports - paper space.

Views and Viewports57 Viewports u Only one viewport is active at any one time. u To activate another viewport, click on it. u When active, the viewport border is “thickened”.

Views and Viewports58 Viewports u You can draw between viewports. u You can start a line in one viewport and complete the line in another viewport.

Views and Viewports59 Viewports u To access Named Viewports u Pick the Display Viewports Dialog button from the Standard, Layouts, or Viewports toolbars. u Enter VPORTS at the Command: prompt. u Select New Viewports from the Viewports cascading menu in the View pull-down menu.

Views and Viewports78 Views/Viewports u Save: u The current viewport can be named and saved. u Names can be up to 31 characters u Restore: u You can recall a view at any time. u Type the view name or enter a “?” to get a list of all of the views. u Delete: u deletes a viewport

Views and Viewports79 Views/Viewports u Join: u permits merging one viewport with another u one view is the dominant viewport; the other viewport takes on the characteristics of the dominant one.

Views and Viewports80 Creating Tiled Viewports u The AutoCAD graphics window can be divided into tiled viewports. u Tiled model space viewports are created with the VPORTS command. u 48 can be active at one time u Only one viewport contains the cross hairs at any one time. u Preset tiled viewports can be selected from an image tile menu.

Views and Viewports81 Uses of Tiled Viewports u Since each viewport is a separate screen, you can REDRAW or REGEN a single viewport at a time without affecting the others. u REDRAWALL redraws all viewports.

Views and Viewports82 Creating Floating Viewports The VPORTS Command

Views and Viewports83 Creating Floating Viewports u Creating floating viewports in Paper Space is very similar to creating Tiled Viewports in Model Space.

Views and Viewports84 Creating Floating Viewports u A view port configuration can be selected from the Viewports dialog box. u Use the VPORTS command. u The MVIEW command can also be used.

Views and Viewports85 Creating Floating Viewports u When Model Space is active, u the Viewports dialog box creates tiled viewports. u When paper space is active, u the Viewports dialog box creates floating viewports.

Views and Viewports86

Views and Viewports87

Views and Viewports88 Creating Floating Viewports u Use Spacing to set the space around the edges of the floating viewports.
