Learning to Learn CEIP TRENC D’ALBA Results of trials following the study visit to Buøy Skole

Session 6

BACKGROUND Individual coaching of the pupils Speed Dating Margrete's method Autonomy method Math's games

Individual Coaching At the Buøy Skole we saw a method to know much better the pupils. The class teacher does a regularly coaching in order to speak about how are they feeling, in what are they struggling or in what are they confient.

Speed Dating This method can be used in many purposes as saw. Students do a round of questions, and they have to complete some infomation given. It is a whole class activity. By this way they review all the theoretical aspects that they should learn.

Margrete's Method Once the students have finished the Speed Dating, they go back in groups and discuss the questions, so they can compare the answers given and can have their own conclusion.

Autonomy method Younger pupils learn how to become more independets. The teacher gives them a paper with all the task that they have to do, they shoul do and optional ones. By the end of the day, theu should have finished all of them. Byu this way, they manage their time.

Math's games Pupils were divided in corners: The class tecaher was in charge of the problem solving of doubles numbers. Assistant teacher was looking the rest of the class who worked board games, calculations and computer games.

Individual coaching of the pupils Speed Dating Margrete's method Autonomy method Math's games TRIED OUT of the methods

Individual Coaching As we saw at Buøy Skole this is a great method to know much better the pupils. We do something similar once a week with the parents, every Tuesday is Parents’ day, so teachers and parents speak about the children progress and sometimes children are present. We will take it into account for next course, because it’s a good way in otder to know our pupils from the beginning of the course.

We were really interested in this method, and some of the teachers are using it in their classes. It’s been carried out in different Subjects, as Natural Science and even languages as English. Speed dating

Margrete’s method As We saw in your “Skole”, after the speed dating, the teacher asks some questions in order to make the students reflect about what they have spoken. In our school, once we did the speed dating we follow your steps and we make the pupils think about the whole process and they can express their conclusions.

Autonomy method We couldn’t manage to carry on this fantastic method, but in a meeting with the rest of the teachers, we all agreeded that we would like to start it the next course, mostly with the early courses os Primary, by this way they will learn how to be self-suficient.

Math’s games In our school we’ve done math’s games in corners for a long time. We liked your way of carrying it and we will set up some activities as you did.

RESULTS Along the presentation, you have seen that some methods or techniques are being carried out nowadays in the school and some are not yet. We would like to start the rest of them next course. It is a shame we couldn’t apply them because we had short period of time from the last visit and these one, also we had Easter holidays and the preparation of this visit.

As in every trip to your schools we did, it is always a pleasure to share the methods and put them into practice with our students. We all enjoy (teachers and pupils) applying the techniques because are new and different ways of learning and always INTERESTING. CONCLUSION

We hope you enjoy with us!
