Mount Michael S.A.M.E Team #1 HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE 2.0

 Mount Michael has been open since 1954  With limited updates to facilities  Out of date  We are unable to accommodate students  No room for our teams or visiting schools  We have grown PROBLEM

CURRENT FACILITIES

 We wanted to understand the wish list of the coaches  As a SAME Group we participate in 8 of the 13 sports offered at school  We were able to bring in our own ideas as athletes  We already had a connection with the coaches and athletic department INTERVIEWS

 Bowling coach – large lockers for bowling bags  Golf coach – large lockers for golf bags  Football coach – large meeting area  Soccer coach – meeting area for pregame talks  Basketball coach – white board for drawing plays  Baseball coach – flooring to accommodate baseball cleats  Track coach – small lockers for shoes and uniforms INTERVIEWS

SITE PLAN

 Why we chose this site  Convenience  Construction ease  Water waste maintenance  Tree and concrete removal  Grading  600 cubic feet  $10 per cubic foot  $500 per tree  Current HVAC system Relocation SITE PLAN

 Solution:  Two building locker rooms just North of the gym and South of the football stadium.  The Northwest building is for the varsity sports teams  Home team  The Northeast building is for the junior varsity sports teams  Away team  Each building equipped with:  Shower rooms / Bathrooms  Lockers  Training rooms  Coaching Offices  Storage rooms PROBLEM SOLUTION

AWAY LOCKER ROOM

 Current building is very out dated  It would be impossible to renovate the current facilities  ADA accessibility  Plumbing is very inefficient; no central air system; boiler system for heat.  Use of these products will help with sustainability:  “The Pint” – gallons per flush  LED lighting  Recycled flooring – GREENGUARD Gold Certified  Denim Insulation SUSTAINABILITY

 We tested different materials for their sound insulation ability  We found that denim insulation with carpet was the best  Having both denim insulation and carpet would be expensive  The difference in ability does not make up for the cost APPLIED SCIENCE MaterialAmplitude (dBFS) Nothing-29 dBFS Fiberglass Insulation-36 dBFS Fiberglass Insulation and Carpet Facing Down -40 dBFS Fiberglass Insulation and Carpet Facing Up-42 dBFS Denim Insulation and Carpet Facing Down-48 dBFS Denim Insulation and Carpet Facing Up-50 dBFS Denim Insulation-47 dBFS

 This project would be part of a master plan  The budget had to be determined by us  High quality  Cost efficient  Our final price is $ 1.15 million for an approximately 7000 sf addition COST ANALYSIS

 Giving Spirit  Capital Campaign  Nate LaFave Memorial Field  Sports Teams are on the rise  Football: Best season in over a decade  Basketball: Went to state for the first time since 2005  Baseball: Has a state championship and runner up in last 4 years  Cross country: Always competing for state titles  Tennis: Dominated districts and was composed of mostly juniors  Wrestling: Larger than ever and had a state competitor this past year  Soccer: Consistently goes to state and or sub-state  Track: Always has people competing for state championships  Bowling: Top 3 in the State consistently  Swimming: State Qualifier FEASIBILITY

 Feasibility  Making sure that the project is a manageable size  Order of importance  Keeping to deadlines  How to work together in a smaller group  Sacrifices  Compromise  Allocating Responsibilities  Communication LESSONS LEARNED
