Recent RRT Activities with Canada RRT1  Redrafted the inland CANUSEAST and CANUSQUE response plans.  Conducted biannual CANUSLANT oil spill response exercise in St. Andrews, NB.  Participated in WMD exercise with US and Canadian Customs, as well as local/state/provincial response agencies. The scenario involved suspected terrorists detonating an explosive and nerve agent at the border crossing in Houlton, ME. Exercise included Level A entries by ME NG WMD-CST and EPA Region I START.

Recent RRT Activities with Canada RRT1 Continued  Participated in an incident notification and response coordination workshop sponsored by the St. Croix River Conservation Commission. The workshop was held in response to some incident notification problems identified during a black liquor release from a paper mill in ME.

Recent RRT Activities with Canada RRT2  Promulgated CANUSCENT - ANNEX III in fall 2001 along with RRT5. Exercise scenarios are being discussed.  Redrafted the inland CANUSQUE response plan. RRT5  Promulgated CANUSCENT - Annex III in fall 2001 along with RRT2. Workgroup was composed of representatives from Environment Canada, EPA Regions II and V, with Great Lakes Commission serving as secretariat. Exercise scenarios are being discussed.

Recent RRT Activities with Canada RRT5 Continued  Participated in Design Team and evaluation of three CANUSLAK cross-border exercises (one US Coast Guard-led, two Canadian Coast Guard-led).  Provided an OSC facilitator/evaluator for the RRT1 CANUSLANT exercise St. Andrews, NB.

Recent RRT Activities with Canada RRT5 Continued  Participated in all scheduled REET meetings, convened jointly by Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, where REET borders are contiguous with established OPA sub-area planning committees. EPA R5 OSCs serve as the US representatives when schedule permit.  Environment Canada Environmental Emergencies Section Chief for Ontario Region regularly attends RRT5 meetings.

Recent RRT Activities with Canada RRT5 Continued  Environment Canada or Canadian Coast Guard personnel have been presenters at last three “No Spills” conferences. This is a regional oil spill/hazmat/emergency response planning group composed of reps from Michigan state government and local county emergency response managers from among 26 counties in northern Michigan.

Recent RRT Activities with Canada RRT8  Working with Environment Canada on the Red River Sub-Area Contingency Plan.  Implemented lessons-learned from a joint response exercise held in  Currently planning a joint tabletop exercise for the summer of RRT10  Conducted several outreach presentations to stakeholders on CANUSWEST activities.

Recent RRT Activities with Canada RRT10 Continued  Meeting scheduled for April 2003 with US and Canadian Customs and Immigration to discuss post 9/11 changes  Working on update to CANUSWEST.  Tabletop RJRT exercise and cross-border PIO training scheduled for 2003.
