You can attend one of several highly rated PDCs! PDC 102: Noise Exposure Assessment: Sampling Strategy and Data AcquisitionPDC 102 PDC 413: Noise Control EngineeringPDC 413 PDC 414: Optimizing Hearing Protection Communication and Hearing Loss PreventionPDC 414 5

Jeremy Slagley Current Position: Assistant Professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania Noise Experience: Noise and vibration exposure in the Air Force. Wants to educate future IH professionals to help prevent hearing loss in workers. Benefits of joining the Noise Committee: Networking with all the “big” names in noise exposure., and helping build a partnership between industry, government, and IH professionals. 6

Jason Kunz Current Position: Noise Committee Chair and 3M PSD Account Representative Noise Experience: 3 years of noise exposure assessment work with the 3M Corp IH. Group. Passionate about the education and growth of future IH professionals to help prevent hearing loss in our workforce. Dad was a “Farm Kid”, and have seen and lived the effects of NIHL first hand. Benefits of joining the Noise Committee: As Jeremy stated, networking with all the “big” names in noise exposure and IH; continuing to grow the profession, both as it relates to the whole, and growing personally as an IH, developing key contacts amongst numerous well- respected organizations and companies, and contributing to the profession. 7

Courtney Tinner 8 Current Position: Industrial Hygiene Consultant at Meadwestvaco Got Interested in Noise Because: Noise is ubiquitous in the workplace and environment, but hearing loss is 100% preventable. Why Join?: Anyone with an interest in noise and the prevention of hearing loss will have the opportunity to participate and help out!

Karin E. Wetzel 9 Current Position: Industrial Hygiene Consultant at Eli Lily & Co Noise Experience: Worked with the Department of Labor and in the chemical industry. Also worked in mitigating environmental noise issues. Benefits of joining the Noise Committee: Gives an opportunity to interact with the veterans in the field who are eager to pass along their knowledge. You can also get involved in numerous ways!

Rick Neitzel 10 Current Position: Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan Motivation for studying noise: Noise is ubiquitous in the workplace, but is difficult to assess exposure to noise. We have known that noise can cause hearing loss for a long time, but hazardous exposure still exists. Why join?: Anyone interested in learning about occupational and environmental noise exposure and is interested in protecting human hearing.

Ben Roberts 11 Current Position: Doctoral Candidate at the University of Michigan Motivation for studying noise: Noise is present in the home and workplace, but we still are not good at measuring a person’s exposure to noise and predicting their risk of NIHL. Why join?: AIHA and the noise committee in particular provides ample opportunities to help advance the science of industrial hygiene while networking with experts in the field.

Carmella Richards 12 Current Position: Regional Industrial Hygienist at S.C. Johnson Who should join?: Anyone who wants to know more about noise and/or who wants to help expand understanding of noise health effects and the benefits of noise reduction. Other areas of interest?: All areas! Specifically preventing or decreasing hazardous exposures.

Mark Geiger 13 Current Position: Occupational Safety and Health Manager at the Navy Safety Center Motivation for studying noise: I worked on a team conducting medical epidemiological evaluations of workers in a range of industries. I noticed the effects of hearing loss on many of the workers, particularly in one project involving evaluation of a paper mill. Who should join?: Anyone interested in evaluation and control of the most ubiquitous health hazard.
