Purpose The purpose of this presentation is to provide the latest updates in the Services to Youth Facet. National Program Perspective Organizational Assessment STY Vision and Goals Leadership Development Goals and Structure Promoting the Links Brand Website Enhancements Progress Evaluation Partnership Development Transformational Programming Tips for Integrating Health & Wellness into Existing Programs

National Program Perspective  No significant “sweeping” changes  Emphasis on integration of health and wellness into chapter programs  Increase in chapters implementing National Goals and Initiatives (transformational programs)  Continued utilization of Service Delivery Model

National Program Perspective  Increase partnerships and engagements  Progress Evaluation of chapter programs  Update and revise the STY information on the National website (Brochure and Toolkit)

Delivering and Sustaining Transformational Programs  The STY facet’s vision is to deliver and sustain transformational programs for youth in Pre- kindergarten through college. The mission is to implement an integrated programming approach that will prepare African American youth for the global workforce as healthy citizens.

Delivering and Sustaining Transformational Programs We will focus on five primary goals, with health and wellness being integrated throughout STY programming. The goals are to:  Continue to further operationalize closing the achievement gap from Pre-K through college, with the intent of preparing our youth for the global workforce as healthy citizens  Revise and modify Services to Youth programs to promote the integration of a health and wellness component focused on youth, families and communities

Delivering and Sustaining Transformational Programs  Develop training modules for local pre- kindergarten through college mentoring programs, to ascertain a high level of support for youth in our communities  Expand and support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and promote the integration of the Arts (STEAM)  Promote and support Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) for ensured sustainability

Enhanced Member Services and Engagement  Increase members’ understanding of Services to Youth programming by enhancing and updating the STY Toolkit on the website, so it is a useful resource to chapters and members. It will include best practices of transformational and integrated programs that chapters can learn about and replicate; examples of how chapters can sustain programs after grant funds are no longer available; checklists for starting national programs in their chapters (i.e. STEM,HBCU Community College Collaborative); and suggested strategies for chapters to integrate health and wellness into existing programming.

Enhanced Member Services and Engagement  Update STY brochure on the website for easy access by members and chapters  Conduct STY webinars, conference calls and present workshops at Area Conferences and the National Assembly to increase members’ knowledge of transformational and sustainable programming

Fund Development and Fiscal Responsibilities  Review and assess existing partnerships while identifying new funding sources and partnerships whose mission aligns with ours to support STY programs

Organizational Assessment and Alignment  Review and examine the relevance, alignment and performance of the seven existing Services to Youth programs and make recommendations for sustainability  Conduct STY webinars to assist chapters in the assessment, evaluation and documentation of their programmatic outcomes and impact

Leadership Development  Develop the STY component of the Program Training and Leadership Manual for chapter, area and STY leaders  Provide a STY toolkit, training modules, workshops and/or webinars for area and chapter STY leaders

Promoting Links Brand  Revise and modify STY programs so they are replicable models that promote health and wellness with youth, families and communities  Ensure that “Building A Healthy Legacy: Our Prescription for the Future” and the Links official logo appear on all STY documents and communications

Key Points to Progress Evaluation Existing Initiatives & Programs:  How does each of your facet’s initiatives relate to the organizations current strategic plan?  What is the value of your facet’s initiatives and programs?  What commitments are in place for your facet that must be continued?

Key Points to Progress Evaluation Moving Forward:  What is your programmatic thrust for the biennium?  What are the SMART goals of your facet?  Who are the potential partners or collaborators?  How will your program support the National vision?

Key Points to Progress Evaluation Moving Forward:  What is your plan for having your program clearly and comprehensively represented in your community?  What is your plan of work? a. Doe it include timelines and a budget? b. Does it include marketing and evaluation component?

Points for Transformational Programming  The chapter has a clearly stated #1 Goal “To Deliver and Sustain Transformational Programming” as part of its strategic plan  The planning process and activities are in line with this #1 goal.  Target group(s) and target community have been identified.  Decision has been made: (single facet, integrated program, umbrella program)

Points for Transformational Programming  Chapter program planning involves strategies for engaging all members in providing service to the target group/community.  Chapter has a proposed budget for implementing planned program(s), and a process for evaluating the success of the program.

Integrating Health & Wellness Consider your programs’ effects on physical and mental heath and wellness. When possible:  Invite medical professionals to share with your target audience  Utilize public medical facilities for programs  Add an element of fitness to your presentation Invite audience participation Take a stretch break

Integrating Health & Wellness  Include health and wellness tips in your presentation to your target audience  Suggest free health and wellness computer and mobile apps for future use by audience  Provide healthy snacks to your target audience  Share the positive outcomes of your programs that lead to great mental and physical health.
